Semicon Facilities Knowledge Sharing Workshop & Panel Discussion The session kicked off with the moderator Prof. Swaroop Ganguly, IIT Bombay, highlighting the different scales of fab facilities in the country. Suraj Rengarajan from Applied Materials shared insights on the importance of engineering labs and cleanroom facilities, emphasizing the role of CENs in enabling such setups. He highlighted the gap in the global and local supplier chain and stressed the need for large-scale fabs to make India a significant semiconductor player. Ravi Meduri, CEO of SITAR, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) discussed the challenges in identifying and retaining talent for MEMS and compound semiconductors manufacturing, while also emphasizing the energy-intensive nature of running fabs. He expressed openness to collaborations with CENs. Sai Saravanan, CEO of GAETEC, shared the journey of setting up their facility using homegrown technology and the struggles they faced with equipment and infrastructure. He too highlighted the need for collaborations to move forward in the sector.
