Yesterday morning, members of the SCSO joined The Rotary Club of Lake Mary as they recognized Deputy Sheriff Curtis McCullough with their First Responder Recognition Award. Deputy McCullough is the epitome of Community Policing. He is well known by community leaders, residents, and juveniles in his service area. Each morning, he makes a point to join one of his well-known elderly residents on her morning walk to discuss problems within the area or just to simply keep her company. Deputy McCullough is quick to give out his phone number to members of the community, so they have a direct line to him on or off duty, and he always answers. He exemplifies the vision of Rotary International by being reflective of “problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change." Congratulations Deputy McCullough!

Chief Counsel Manny Guarch and Senior Administrator Bob Cortes addressed the Florida Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of the Florida Sheriffs Association on Tuesday. They discussed HB 621 – Florida’s Squatter Law, highlighting how recent legal changes have deterred individuals from squatting in properties, facilitated the removal of squatters, and provided case examples that could improve the law for all Floridians moving forward.
