关于我们
Self-Help for the Elderly is a private community-based non-profit organization. Our mission is to promote the independence, dignity and self-worth of seniors. We will achieve this by empowering seniors to help themselves and by providing a comprehensive range of multicultural and multilingual services. Founded in 1966, Self-Help offers a vast array of health care and social services to over 40,000 seniors and disabled adults annually in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties. More than 90% of the agency’s clients are members of ethnic communities; and over 90% of Self-Help’s current staff is bilingual and bicultural in various Chinese dialects, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Spanish or Russian. All direct service staff are bilingual in at least one of the above languages and are culturally and linguistically competent to provide services to the target population. Self-Help for the Elderly has earned a reputation for employing and providing housekeeping jobs in San Francisco in the form of house cleaning services, commercial cleaning services, and job training programs. In addition, current customers have come to rely on their social services such as home health care, assisted living, hospice care, in-home care, home care assistance, senior care, adult day care, and elderly care. Proudly serving Richmond District, Sunset District, Chinatown, Nob Hill, San Mateo, Marina District, Pacific Heights, Mission District, Hayes Valley, Daly City and surrounding areas since 1966.

Thank you, Madison Alvarado, for the story. Nonprofits are scrambling to fill their budget holes and preserve their services in an environment where private funders are also pulling back. “????’???? ???????? ???????? ????????????? ????? ??????, ???? ??????? ???? ???????? ???? ????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ???????? ?????? ???????? ??????????????????????. ?????? ????’?? ?????? ???????? ????. ?????? ???? ????? ?????????????????? ?????????????????? ??????????????????? ?????? ?????? ?????????????????? ?????? ???????? ?????? ???????????????????? ??????? ????? ???????? ????????????????????.” said Winnie Yu, our Chief Programs & Compliance Officer. Self-Help for the Elderly is getting fewer voluntary contributions from the people who receive food through its dine-in and home-delivery programs. Before the pandemic, the nonprofit received 80% of the contributions that it budgeted for, but after the pandemic that fell to “10% on a good day” Yu said, leading to $?? ?????????????? ???? ???????????? for the organization. “?????????? ??????’?? ??????? ????? ???????????????? ???? ???????? ?????????????? ??????????????????? ???? ???? ??????????????????. ????’?? ???????? ?????????????????? ?????????? ???????? ?? ????????????.” — Winnie Yu, our Chief Programs & Compliance Officer. read the story ?

Today, we had the pleasure of hosting a valuable talk on hypertension with Drs. Hans Yu and Edmund Tsoi for the seniors from Self-Help for the Elderly. Their insights into the causes of hypertension which includes lack of exercise, unhealthy eating habits, lack of sleep, smoking, and excessive alcohol use — just to name a few — are important to prevention. #CommunityHospital #Hospital #Healthcare #Hypertension #Prevention #HealthyHabits
