In April 2024, the Department of Labor issued a Final Rule that significantly raised the minimum salary thresholds for certain overtime exemptions under the Fair Labor Standards Act. After a recent ruling in the Texas Federal Court, the minimum salary thresholds are to be restored to pre-2024 levels, as the Final Rule was invalidated nationwide. Jordan May was recently appointed the President of the Lawyers Association of Kansas City-Young Lawyers Section (LAKC-YLS) Board for the 2024-2025 term, and Ben Wietharn was selected to the Board for a two-year term through 2026. On November 5, 2024, Missouri voters approved Proposition A, which increases the Missouri Minimum Wage to $13.75 per hour effective January 1, 2025, and then to $15.00 per hour effective January 1, 2026, also adding a paid sick leave requirement for some workplaces. Proposition A impacts many Missouri employers, who will want to remain diligent to ensure compliance.
