Building a culture of Mentorship among business students at Grand Valley State University.
关于我们
We believe that success requires collaboration, perspective, and networking. These skills become even more valuable as you continue, both professionally and personally. At Seidman, we recognize this and have developed a groundbreaking mentorship program that fosters learning agility for students and mentors. Freshman mentees are paired with peers, usually, junior and senior students, who can introduce them to Laker Life, help identify interests, possible career paths, and navigate the university. Peer mentors are themselves mentored by business professionals who help them explore careers, establish a work-life balance, and provide a sounding board for life's questions. The only requirement is to check in with your mentee, virtually, by phone, or live, twice per month. Most mentors spend about 1 hour per month on the program. We invite you to join us as a first-year mentee, peer mentor, or professional who wants to mentor an advanced GV student. Should you choose to join us, we will pair you based on mutual interests, both professional and personal. Benefits include: Thoughtful pairing to a mentor partner Options to communicate via text, phone, video, or live Support via the SCB Mentorship office Invitations to SBC Mentorship networking and community events Satisfaction of giving back to GV and making a difference in a student’s life Opportunities to network and learn with the next generation of Laker Graduates

Getting in touch with your mentee or mentor at busier points in the school year can be challenging, but don't be discouraged! Here are some tried-and-true tips that can help you get a response: ?? Be Specific: Rather than a general “Let me know when you’re free,” you can try giving clearer options. For example, “I’m having coffee at Midnight Express this week. Would Wednesday at 11:00 am or Thursday at 2:00 pm work for you? We can meet at Seidman and walk down together, or you can meet me there.” ??Make Lunch Plans: “Where do you eat lunch? Want to join me tomorrow at 12:30 pm?” ?? Easy Meetups: Invite them to join you during your regular study hours: “I study at the library on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00-9:00 pm. You’re welcome to stop by and study with me!” ?? Following Up: Have you tried multiple forms of contact? (Email, text, phone call) Is your message clear and specific enough to get a response? Sometimes, it’s helpful to look back and reflect. If you have trouble connecting after multiple attempts, feel free to contact the Seidman Mentorship Program at [email protected] for assistance! You are doing your best, and we are here to support you! #SeidmanMentorshipProgram #LakerStrong #FutureSuccess
