    5 Outdated Interview Questions You Should Never Ask ???? 1. “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” ?? Translation: "Can you predict the future, please?" ?? The reality: In today’s fast-changing job market, it’s hard to predict next month, let alone 5 years. A better question? ?? Ask this instead: “What kind of growth would you like to see in your role, and how can we support that?” Now you're talking partnership, not future fantasies. 2. “What’s your greatest weakness?” ?? Translation: "Tell me you're a workaholic without telling me you're a workaholic." ?? Spoiler alert: No one’s going to say “I procrastinate and miss deadlines.” They’ll just say they’re "too detail-oriented." ?? Ask this instead: “Can you tell me about a time you faced a challenge and how you worked through it?” This gives you actual insights into their problem-solving skills. 3. “Why should we hire you?” ?? Translation: “Please sell yourself to me because I haven’t read your resume.” ?? This question makes candidates rehash the obvious. ?? Ask this instead: “What excites you most about this role, and how do you think you can contribute?” This is more personal and helps gauge motivation, not just qualifications. 4. “If you were a tree, what kind would you be?” ?? Translation: "I think being quirky will help me hire better." ?? Unless you’re hiring for a job in forestry, this question is an instant flop. ?? Ask this instead: “Can you describe a workplace environment where you thrive?” You'll get a much clearer idea of cultural fit without the guesswork. 5. “How many golf balls can fit in a 747?” ?? Translation: "I want to sound clever, but this question is useless." ?? While these ‘brain teasers’ used to be trendy, they rarely tell you anything about a candidate’s skills. ??Ask this instead: “When faced with an ambiguous task or goal, how do you approach it?” It’s practical, and you'll actually learn something about their critical thinking.
