This was a win because of the hard work of the local Indigenous native community and tribes. This is why we must return leadership to Indigenous communities. Indigenous communities protect about 80% of the rapidly declining biodiversity on our planet/home. Native people have the most intimate connections and relationships with the land are the same people who understand how to take care of it, and thus all beings. All settlers: I invite us to give everything we can to Indigenous leadership The Klamath River, once the third-largest salmon-producing river on the West Coast, has faced drastic declines in fish populations since the construction of hydroelectric dams began in 1918. The river’s blocked flow reduced water quality, increased temperatures, and made it nearly impossible for salmon and steelhead to complete their life cycles. This represents a major victory for the Klamath Basin tribes, the States of California and Oregon, and numerous environmental and fishing groups. https://lnkd.in/gtjgdYBY #indigenous #chinook

Spotlight: Heart Berry began as House of Howes in a kitchen in Northern Minnesota on the Rez. In 2014, House of Howes was a small custom regalia business. Sarah Agaton Howes (Anishinaabe) created custom beadwork, quilts, regalia, and moccasins for clients across the midwest. The demand for cultural art and cultural tools quickly out grew what Howes could manage. She knew it was time for a shift. That is when she started teaching her community HOW to be makers. https://lnkd.in/ecdURYq6
