关于我们
Seeds of Health is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that runs a K-12 network of schools in Milwaukee, guided by our mission to meet the unique needs of urban children through small schools in a caring, personal environment. Seeds of Health was founded in 1983 as a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Clinic. Recognizing the educational needs of our clients, many of whom were school-age parents, Seeds of Health established its first school in 1987. We continued growing the Seeds of Health school network in response to Milwaukee families’ calls for high-quality, relationship-based, small-school environments offering multiple pathways toward successful futures for a full range of students, from at-risk to academically advanced. Today, in addition to the WIC Clinic, Seeds of Health operates five public schools through charter and partnership agreements, educating more than 1,500 students annually. Schools include Seeds of Health K-8 Elementary, Grandview High School, Veritas High School, and two Tenor High School campuses – Cathedral Square and Journal Square. Each school has a distinct mission, grounded in rigorous, grade-level instruction with scaffolds of support and enhanced by wide-ranging extracurricular activities and social emotional learning initiatives. Over nearly 40 years, Seeds of Health has enriched the lives of thousands of Milwaukee children by helping them discover their future orientation and the pathway to achieve it. Seeds of Health graduates go on to four-year universities, pursue the trades by leveraging credits earned at MATC through Tenor’s dual certification program, or enter the workforce using the skills they developed through Seeds of Health’s rigorous curriculum and career initiatives delivered collaboratively with our broad partner network.

38 Seeds of Health students were selected to attend yesterday's 15th annual Girls Day @ City Hall event held in honor of Women's History Month and created by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs (6th District) when she was the only female alderperson. Our students from Tenor Journal Square, Tenor Cathedral Square, and Veritas High School were inspired by the opportunity learn about potential public service careers and other leadership roles and energized by Alderwoman Coggs' challenge to follow the words of Milwaukee's first Alderwoman Vel R. Phillips: "If you really want it, don't dream small; dream big dreams." #WomensHistoryMonth

On behalf of our students, families, and the entire Seeds of Health agency, I'd like to share my immense gratitude with Herb Kohl Philanthropies and JoAnne Anton for continuing to make our high schoolers' Learning Journey to Washington, D.C. possible. At the end of February, 90 students from Tenor Journal Square High School, Tenor Cathedral Square High School, and Veritas High School made the unforgettable trip to visit our nation's capital, immersing themselves in history, seeing what they've learned in the classroom up-close, and developing life skills through travel. This experience is one of the most impactful for our young people, thanks to your generosity. Seeds Of Health

BizTimes Media, we're grateful for the opportunity to participate in yesterday's Milwaukee Education Spotlight and share in the conversation around one of our city's most important issues! Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of hosting a roundtable discussion with Zoe Lord-Frame of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee at BizTimes Media's Milwaukee Education Spotlight event. We spoke about the power of school-based mentorship, the importance of Social Emotional Learning in schools, and the significance of the strong partnership Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee and Seeds of Health have built over more than a decade. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee's work at Seeds of Health schools perfectly complements and strengthens our efforts to provide our students the guidance and support they need to meet their full potential! Thank you to BizTimes Media for hosting this important event - we appreciate your work in spotlighting the issues in education that are so critical for the future of our kids and community.

Seeds of Health operates five distinct school campuses - Seeds of Health K-8 Elementary, Grandview High School, Tenor Cathedral Square High School, Tenor Journal Square High School, and Veritas High School. Each has its own unique "feel," perfect for the program happening inside. But the thing they all have in common? They're welcoming, safe, modern, well-maintained, and well-equipped so students are comfortable and able to do their best learning.

Building a love of reading at Seeds of Health Elementary is an important piece of our focused Literacy Initiative. Last week, I attended the Elementary School's Literacy Night and was lucky enough to lead a read-aloud of my favorite picture book, "Don't Be Silly, Mrs. Millie!" A special thanks to Milwaukee Public Library for being on hand to sign our kids up for library cards and to all the Elementary School staff for sharing so many engaging and creative activities with our students and families.

An exciting update on our student-run Coffee Cafe at Tenor Cathedral Square!
Chief Executive Officer for Seeds of Health | Charter School Executive | Urban Education Innovator | K-12 Education Expert | Relationship Broker | Fundraiser | Keynote Speaker | Community Volunteer
To those who have been following the story of the student-run Coffee Cafe at Seeds of Health's Tenor Cathedral Square, I'm incredibly excited to share the official name and logo the students developed with help from the experts (thank you, Chemistry in Place and Dan Makouske!) after months of hard work. Our young people developed brand concepts, presented them to administration, shared them with their community, worked with a professional graphic designer, and finally landed on "Cathedral Cafe," and the logo you see here. All the while, the Cafe has been serving up some amazing student-created beverages. The students have learned so much about a wide array of topics throughout this process - from design and marketing to business and entrepreneurship - and I can't wait to see where they take Cathedral Cafe next. Hands-on career exploration is such a powerful part of a Seeds of Health education. Thank you to the Local 420 for making this opportunity possible for our students.

I was so proud to recognize our Seeds of Health high schoolers' hard work completing their bathroom construction project at an Open House at the Local 420 last night. The Local 420 has been an outstanding partner in increasing our students' exposure to and interest in careers in the trades. We're grateful to all the volunteers and instructors who shared their knowledge with our students and made this program possible! We Energies Mark Maierle Seeds Of Health

To honor the legacy and example of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Seeds of Health Elementary and some of our agency administrators will be volunteering for Bernie's Book Bank, which helps develop students' home libraries. The donated books that school leaders will be unloading, sorting, and organizing will be given to Milwaukee students.
