Congrats to Prof. Friday Okonofua, who was elected into the National Academy of Medicine! Prof. Okonofua leads the African Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI), University of Benin, at the University of Benin. The Academy lauded his election with these notes: "For expertise in reproductive health and leading large national and international research in interventional and implementation research for preventing maternal mortality with impact on policies and programming in African countries. He is committed to gender quality, ethics, and equity in global and African settings." Seeding Labs is proud to have partnered with Prof. Okonofua to equip CERHI with equipment to support their innovative research. 关于我们
Seeding Labs is empowering every scientist to transform the world. As a Boston-based nonprofit, we are dedicated to strengthening science in developing countries because the world can’t afford to let any scientific talent go to waste. We don’t just focus on health, or food security, or energy and environment, or economic development—we aim to transform them all. Through Instrumental Access, we put the tools of modern science in the hands of brilliant scientists worldwide. Instrumental Access enables research and discovery, teaching and learning, and institutional capacity-building that are essential to solving development challenges. Our scientists are working to improve healthcare, adapt agricultural systems to climate change, and generate clean energy. To date, Seeding Labs has made more than 132 shipments of donated laboratory equipment and supplies to 100 universities and institutions in 39 countries. Working with our 200+ corporate partners, these shipments have provided instruments worth more than $44 million, enhancing the education of thousands of scientists and students aroundthe globe.

"Unfortunately, the places most lacking in research funds are often those that need them most, and a society’s own people are the ones best placed to solve its challenges. Rather than imposing their frameworks and culture, the job of funders is to support researchers to take their own approaches." Hannah Ngugi?at the Science for Africa Foundation briefly shares some of the structural reasons that contribute to the severe lack of funding for research in low- and middle-income countries. This is likely quite eye-opening for those of you unfamiliar with research in low-resource countries. But the critical takeaway is not to let these difficulties continue to draw funding away from the places that need it most. As funders and organizations in resource-rich areas, we can and should find ways to work in these environments. Seeding Labs has been taking this same approach for nearly 20 years. While the resources that we provide are non-monetary, the principles underlying how and why we do our work are the same. And I invite you to connect to us to learn more about how you can become a part of the solution. https://lnkd.in/ebsmiXRP
