Welcome back to Consulting with a Cause, a series by Seed Consulting Group designed to shed light on our work and highlight positive impacts. This time we reflect on a past low bono engagement working with an organization focused on keeping lakes healthy through innovative data monitoring technology. The theme - how can the team add value for an organization in an industry in which they have limited experience? ???? At Seed, we celebrate volunteers with a diverse range of skills and experiences. For this particular team, we had volunteers with backgrounds in finance, IT, engineering, and, of course, sustainability! These numerous perspectives allowed the team to take a holistic approach to the client’s needs and utilize best practices across industries to develop their solutions. To mitigate the lack of industry knowledge, the team began by assessing the client vis-à-vis its main competitors, with a focus on their marketing, website, and main product offerings. That provided a more thorough understanding of the client but also allowed the team to take the information gathered from client interviews and synthesize it with what others were doing in the same industry. When developing growth strategies, the team divided into different workstreams, focusing on the potential markets, customers, products, and website design. ? Market Sizing ??: analyzed the number of lakes by state and honed in on the presence of homeowners associations (HOAs) which often have an oversight role for bodies of water in residential areas, and the total addressable market value for the top states to target.? ? Product Offerings ??: required input from the whole team and exploration into the financial benefit of bundling packages. This led to a focus on discounting cheaper consumables as a package to net higher sales on the big-ticket items. ? Company Website ???: provided alternative design choices, but they simulated the buying experience based on the likely buying pattern of various customer profiles. The team then married the workstreams into a multi-faceted growth plan, with an emphasis on expanding to new markets and e-commerce enhancements. Finally, they provided a comprehensive roadmap to assist the client with implementing the feedback. The team’s effort to go above and beyond paid off as we will be deepening our ties and collaborating once again! ?? ?? Feel free to reach out to Ashton Gilbert for inquiries.

  • Welcome to Consulting with a Cause, a series by Seed Consulting Group. We hope that you will engage with us as we aim to provide insights, showcase our unique consulting approach, and drive meaningful discussion with our impact-oriented community. Please share your thoughts and feedback with us! ?? ?? Introduction ??: Like any growing business, nonprofits looking to expand often face unique challenges. For one project cycle with a growing nonprofit organization in the energy sector, Seed was tasked with providing operational consulting to streamline processes and creating a partnership plan to increase outreach efforts. Mindset ?? : Above all else, the guiding principle of the team was to focus on practical solutions. Seed wanted the solutions and ideas presented to be implemented, even with the time and budget constraints that are typical of a nonprofit organization. Operations ??? : For the first objective, when analyzing the organization’s operations, Seed approached the problem through the client’s viewpoint. We held multiple stakeholder interviews, reviewed all available documentation, and then synthesized those inputs to provide a clear perspective of the improvement areas. After internalizing the information, we acted as guides, leading the client down a path towards resolutions and then provided process diagrams, checklists, and best practices to help with implementation and long term maintenance. Partnerships ?? : For the second objective, while the organization had relationships with various entities, there was no structured partnership plan. We first had mapped their current relationships, both for our and the client’s visual understanding. After that, we focused on developing realistic lists of potential outreach targets, as well as the necessary materials (fliers, intro slide decks, email templates) to engage with different groups. This way, there was a clear path forward - from internal ideating, to introductions, to finally nailing the pitch. Impact ? : By refining operations and crafting a structured partnership plan, we empowered the organization to streamline its processes and amplify its outreach efforts. We’re excited to see how these strategies drive growth by standardizing workflows to increase predictability and boosting partner conversion rates through impactful pitch resources. ??
