In today's ever-shifting marketplace, staying ahead is not an option—it's a mandate. For leaders in marketing, sales, customer success, and product development, proprietary research isn't just a tool, it's your secret weapon. This isn't about generic, one-size-fits-all strategy or dataset. This is about unique, tailored insights that give you the edge in your market. There are six key reasons to validate the investment in proprietary research: 1. Building Standout Strategy Forget cookie-cutter data. Proprietary research uncovers insights that are invisible to your competitors, giving you a unique perspective on market dynamics and consumer behaviors so you can build a truly powerful strategy. 2. Creating A Competitive Advantage Dive deep into your competitors' strategies and metrics. Proprietary research reveals hidden threats and opportunities, empowering you to anticipate and outmaneuver the competition. It also allows you to benchmark your capability against your peers, identifying your competitive maturity. Be the leader who sees what's coming before it hits. 3. Staying Connected to Customers Get to the heart of your customers' needs and preferences. Proprietary research provides the granular details you need to create and test your marketing campaigns, sales tactics, and customer success strategies that truly resonate. 4. Innovating Your Product Development Use proprietary insights to guide your product roadmap. Identify gaps and opportunities in the market, and develop solutions that not only meet current demands but anticipate future trends. Be the innovator, not the follower by conducting both competitor and customer research simultaneously. 5. Setting the Correct Objectives Defining what you're after is good, but knowing it's the right objective is even better. Proprietary insights on your customers, your market, and your competitors will allow you identify which direction you should be heading as you work to get everyone working together. 6. Staying Agile The market is fluid and any market-facing leader must constantly & continuously adapt and refine their strategies. Intelligence & insights are the way to ensure you are skating to where the puck is going, not where it was. If you are looking to leverage the full power of proprietary research, let me know. It's what we do at Sedulo Group.

Just finished reading "Good Strategy/Bad Strategy" by Richard P. Rumelt, and it's packed with valuable insights. Here are some of my top takeaways: Good strategy is harnessing power and applying it to have the most impact, like placing the fulcrum of a lever in the optimal spot. Short term, this could be outmaneuvering a rival with a blend of policies (e.g., monetization models), actions (e.g., pricing, promotions), and resources (e.g., new markets and products). Long-term, it’s aligning resources to innovate. A strategy is essentially a way through a difficulty, an approach to overcoming an obstacle, or a response to a challenge. If the challenge isn’t defined, it’s impossible to assess the quality of the strategy. And if you can’t assess it, you can’t reject a bad one or improve a good one. A significant part of strategy work is figuring out what’s really going on. That’s where I come in. Strategy is a competitive exercise, which is why Competitive Intelligence research firms (Sedulo Group) excel at helping create strategies. When an organization succeeds, there’s always a blocked or failed competitor left in the wake So, what should you do to create a good strategy and avoid a bad one? 1. Start by creating a story of your reality, usually identifying the underlying change. In my experience, this often stems from new market trends (e.g., AI), consumer behaviors (e.g., generational shifts), or competitive actions (e.g., market entry or product launch). 2. Diagnose the Problem. This is the lynchpin. A good diagnosis simplifies and focuses the complex and ambiguous problem. Often, it's represented by a metaphor, analogy, or framework. Identifying the problem is crucial for building a strong strategy and gaining a market advantage. This is easier said than done. Even gathering the facts can be challenging. Companies have access to a wealth of generally available knowledge, which is essential, but since it’s available to all seriously competitive players, it can’t create an advantage. One of the most important resources a business can have is privileged information—knowing something that others do not. This information is generated through actively exploring and experimenting with your customers, competitors, and markets. It’s generated throughout your entire operational value chain. If all an organization did was evaluate information (both new, existing, and continuing) on their markets, customers, and competitors to identify, score, map, and prioritize risks and opportunities, it would have a significant market advantage. (cough—I can help you do this—cough). Good strategy grows from independent and careful assessment of your situation, combining your insights with proprietary studies of customers, markets, and competitors. Bad strategy follows the crowd, copies competitors, and isn’t built through experimentation or proprietary information. #GoodStrategy #Leadership #MarketAdvantage #StrategicThinking #CompetitiveEdge
