The BoCC has declared Oct. 21-25, 2024, as Family Promise Week! Family Promise of Greater Wichita is dedicated to helping homeless and low-income families attain sustainable independence through a collaborative community approach. The organization has successfully engaged volunteers, local congregations and community organizations to offer temporary housing, meals, and essential services to families in need. They are a cornerstone of our community, and we encourage all citizens to show their support for this organization and its valuable contributions.

Recently, with help from Kansas Osteopathic Medical students, Sedgwick County Department of Corrections Juvenile Services continued its mission of fostering change in the community. They led a program teaching our clients the basics of human anatomy using Play-Doh. They are hopeful that little things like this will have a huge impact on the kids' when they return to their normal routines by providing a variety of tools and resources.

Today, Sedgwick County Commissioners and leadership got a glimpse of Kansas’ economic future at the 45th Annual Kansas Economic Outlook Conference. They joined many other elected officials and business leaders to discuss local, state and national economic trends. Commissioner Ryan Baty served as the moderator for a panel titled “Navigating the Intersection of Labor, Well-being, and Economic Challenges of Households,” which featured Sedgwick County Sheriff Easter as a panelist.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a time for individuals and communities to come together in support of those facing mental health challenges. Sedgwick County COMCARE is one of these vital support systems, committed to assisting people in crisis and enhancing the well-being of those they serve.
