关于我们
At Second Harvest, we believe all people deserve access to healthy, nourishing food. Last year, we distributed 9 million pounds of food to our network of more than 200 nonprofit agencies in Lehigh Northampton, Carbon, Monroe, Pike, and Wayne counties. Collectively, our network serves 60,000 people each month; more than half of those served are children or seniors.

We had an incredible day at Second Harvest Food Bank with Congresswoman Susan (Ellis) Wild and Representative Jim Clyburn! Alongside our Volunteer Coordinator, Amour Inman, we sorted and packed pantry boxes filled with recent food donations to support families across the region. We also wrote thoughtful notes to be included in the boxes, adding a personal touch for families when they open them around the holidays. ?? Thank you both for visiting and demonstrating your commitment to food access and nutrition here in the Lehigh Valley and beyond!

We're excited to share that the USDA has announced $1 billion in new funding for emergency food assistance through the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC)! This includes $500 million for additional food purchases through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and $500 million for the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA).??This critical funding is a direct result of the relentless advocacy by Feeding America network members. This support comes at a crucial time, as food banks across the country continue to face increased demand and ongoing challenges in Congress with the farm bill. ?? However, we know that more support is needed. Additional funding for TEFAP and a more sustainable funding stream for LFPA are vital to meeting the needs of our neighbors. Second Harvest Food Bank and Feeding America will keep advocating for a strong farm bill and for the resources necessary to support those affected by Hurricane Helene and ongoing supply chain issues in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). Together, we can help ensure no one goes hungry! ???

Despite the humid weather, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us for our Take Action Against Hunger event at Black River Farms in honor of #HungerActionMonth. It was a fantastic evening filled with trivia, wine, tasty treats from Butterhead Kitchen, and even some grape harvesting! A HUGE thank you to our sponsors for making this event possible. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with both familiar faces and new supporters. Together, we raised approximately $15,000 to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank's programs. We also extend our thanks to the elected officials who showed their support, including representatives from the offices of Senator Bob Casey, Representative Joshua Siegel, Senator Jarrett Coleman, Representative Zach Mako, and more!
