Our region’s largest hunger-relief organization. Join us in ending hunger together.

关于我们

Second Harvest Heartland is a leading hunger-relief organization. In partnership with more than 1,100 food shelves and hunger-relief programs in Minnesota and western Wisconsin, we provided nearly 128 million meals to neighbors last year. We also help families enroll in food assistance and provide prepared meals for people who need more than groceries. Second Harvest Heartland is a leader, convener and voice in hunger-related policy discussions. We’re working on a bold goal to cut hunger in half for all Minnesotans by 2030. With the help of the whole community, we’ll reduce hunger today by increasing access to emergency food, and prevent hunger tomorrow with policy, partnerships and one-on-one services, all while tracking progress to ensure we’re effective and accountable. There’s a role for each of us to play in making hunger history. Reach out to learn how you can join us or learn more at 2harvest.org. Eddie and Roxann moved to the Twin Cities from New Mexico in 1998. They love the variety and freshness of the produce at The Open Door in nearby Eagan. “We’re both disabled and on social security, so the cost effectiveness of this is a huge help. The main thing is that we’re now eating a regular meal. Food increases everything for us, exponentially.” “We went for a long time being like, “Well, why should we get up in the morning?” We didn’t have a lot. But now it’s like ‘wait a minute — we’ve got a bunch of food. What are we going to eat?”

Too many Minnesotans are one flat tire or medical bill away from an empty fridge. And with Thanksgiving only a week away, more and more neighbors are looking to Second Harvest Heartland and our hunger-relief partners for help getting food on the table. Your gift today for Give to the Max Day can double in impact: https://lnkd.in/g-niPy7P Every $1 you give now can go twice as far to provide 6 meals for neighbors facing hunger, thanks to matching funds from Post Consumer Brands, Gopher Medical, Inc., The Mosaic Company and other generous sponsors.

Our volunteers move mountains. Sometimes they are mountains of apples, onions, or potatoes. Last week, 848 volunteers and 160 Medica volunteers packed 245,950 pounds. This helps us get items into the hands of our food shelf partners in sizes they can manage. Thank you to Medica for volunteering and your support of our mission to end hunger together.

Here's a peek at our process for evolving the color palette at Second Harvest Heartland! I'm so excited about how we arrived at a range of values that allows us to produce effective, accessible designs. -We shifted from cool grays to some warmer, greener neutrals and added a deep green to fill the missing spot in the palette for a truly dark value. -We softened our yellow to a more buttery shade, and added a bright tangerine to bridge the dramatic gap between our orange and yellow. -We moved our blues into greener territory to act as a natural extension of our kale green—the core brand teal. -Finally, the dark blue from the existing palette was very close to our kale green, and we experimented with shifting it into a more distinct color before we finally just eliminated it. We aimed for a balance between adding colors to fill gaps and sticking to a manageable number of colors—eventually arriving at 16 colors, just one more than our starting point. The new palette keeps our overall feel, but in a more unified, harmonious system that manages to be both vibrant and a little earthy. It feels right for where our org is headed—grounded, energetic, and ready for big things ahead.

For those who've volunteered at Second Harvest Heartland and repacked potatoes, you might have wondered how we get such large quantities of food. Check out this insightful article on our partnership with RDOffutt Company and Brown's Produce. You're going to want to see the potato storage photo!! ?? https://lnkd.in/gWkqKUdt Interesting fact: Last year Second Harvest Heartland volunteers repacked over 3 MILLION pounds of potatoes into 40 pound bags or over 75,000 bags of potatoes that were distributed into the community. That's a lot of spuds! ??
