MOUNT OLIVET LAB SCHOOL INC's food shelf NOURISH is working to remove the stigma surrounding accessing hunger relief in their St. Paul community. The organization hosts a Saturday grocery store style food shelf inside the Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities' gymnasium. To assist with creating a comfortable and familiar space for visitors, Second Harvest Heartland assisted NOURISH with purchasing shopping carts as well as getting five carts donated from the Kowalski's on Grand Avenue. “We are so excited about rolling out the shopping carts... They will make a huge difference for our neighbors,” said NOURISH Executive Director Andrea Thomas. During their first distribution using these shopping carts, NOURISH served 235 families—roughly twice as many as usual! “I'm certain the shopping carts/grocery store model has made a significant difference in helping neighbors feel more comfortable visiting the food shelf,” said Second Harvest Heartland Rising Partner Program Coordinator Reagan Kerr. 关于我们
Second Harvest Heartland is a leading hunger-relief organization. In partnership with more than 1,100 food shelves and hunger-relief programs in Minnesota and western Wisconsin, we provided nearly 128 million meals to neighbors last year. We also help families enroll in food assistance and provide prepared meals for people who need more than groceries. Second Harvest Heartland is a leader, convener and voice in hunger-related policy discussions. We’re working on a bold goal to cut hunger in half for all Minnesotans by 2030. With the help of the whole community, we’ll reduce hunger today by increasing access to emergency food, and prevent hunger tomorrow with policy, partnerships and one-on-one services, all while tracking progress to ensure we’re effective and accountable. There’s a role for each of us to play in making hunger history. Reach out to learn how you can join us or learn more at 2harvest.org. We did this in our factories, and sometimes in product development...This opportunity allows me to use my expertise to improve processes and make an impact.”- Fatih Learn how Fatih as a skills-based project volunteer, has been assisting Second Harvest Heartland's CSFP team to better serve our neighbors: https://bit.ly/4ioFdSd

There is no single root cause of hunger. For many, it’s ongoing and persistent. Through our Statewide Hunger Study conducted alongside Wilder Research in 2024, we found that 26% of Minnesota households with children are food insecure. These numbers show the stark reality of food insecurity in our state and outline the work that needs to be done to cut hunger in half for all Minnesotans by 2030. It will take all of us to Make Hunger History. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gYKgFu_D

To make hunger history, Second Harvest Heartland and the entire Minnesota hunger-relief system need the support of volunteers. Samantha Lucas, community engagement manager at Allianz Life, spoke with us about the importance they place on volunteering as a company and how Allianz makes volunteering a priority for employees. https://bit.ly/4gMUpaw
