?? Did you know? Back in September 1974, we drafted our first job description for the Director of the Food Bank Program, a key part of the ESO Division of Aging and Emergency Services. Our goals were clear: 1?? Equip our food warehousing and distribution facility for efficiency. 2?? Establish fair, regulated procedures for our food banking system. 3?? Maximize food distribution with our limited resources. And on September 1, 1974, we leased our very first 1,500 sq. ft. warehouse facility. ??? Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with a touch of tradition and a dash of creativity! Our Nutrition Center features a staff-crafted recipe for Snowy Skin Ube Mooncakes. Kieu and Brittany from our staff-led AAAPI Affinity Group shared: 'I remember my family and others in my community getting together and celebrating auspicious holidays like the Mid-Autumn Festival and Lunar New Year every year growing up. It was full of lion dances, firecrackers, red and golden decorations, and delicious goodies. Mooncakes are one of those treats I would look forward to every year. Mooncakes are a token of love and culture, our heritage passed down through little yummy cakes. I hope our community celebrates Lunar New Year, the year of the rabbit, with loved ones and lots of festivities.' Their pantry transforms into a festive fiesta where love, care, and joy abound. As they beautifully describe it, “At our pantry, it’s more like a fiesta! We come together with so much love and community to share and receive.” ?? ALAS is grateful to share the food we provide with our hardworking community—many of whom are the very people who grow the food we eat. Their innovative approach to food sharing not only celebrates but also uplifts our community, working together to enhance food security and health. Our truck drivers are vital to ending hunger in Silicon Valley! ???? Last year, their hard work helped us distribute an average of 10M pounds of food every month—that’s over 250 truckloads of nourishment. ???? In total, they delivered 125M pounds of food, providing more than 104M meals to our neighbors in need. We’re grateful for all that they do to keep our community fed. ?? #ThankATrucker #NationalTruckDriverAppreciationWeek

Wow, what a day! Our community's generosity on Hunger Action Day went above and beyond. Thanks to the outpouring of support, we will be able to provide enough food for 298,952 meals for our Bay Area neighbors. This is the power of a community coming together! ?? #50YearsofCommunity

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, SJSU President Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley Chief Philanthropy Officer, Shobana Gubbi and Board Member Tony Gonzalez helped kick off this powerful day of service.
