Thank you to everyone who participated in WKRN News 2 WK Food 2 Families! This year we had 30 schools participate which included 19,635 students. Because of this incredible participation, 205,058 meals were provided to our neighbors facing hunger across Middle and West Tennessee. We wanted to give a special shout out to our first place winners- Discovery School representing Elementary School provided 2,505 meals, St. Bernard Academy representing Middle School provided 4,431 meals, and Montgomery Bell Academy representing High School provided 81,599 meals! We’re already excited to do it all again next year! ??

Too many of our neighbors across Middle and West Tennessee have to manage their diabetes while facing food insecurity. This is particularly stressful when managing diabetes is difficult without access to nutritious food. We often speak to folks like Larry, who is unable to work and without health insurance after having a stroke related to his diabetes. At Second Harvest Food Bank, we ensure that people like Larry can keep their A1C low by providing fresh vegetables and other low-sugar food options. Dale, a Vietnam veteran, began noticing community gatherings at Perry County Senior Center during his regular Tuesday breakfasts at the Veteran’s Service Office next door. After deciding one day to stop by, he now receives a nourishing meal and empowers other local veterans by delivering extra lunches to those who can’t drive saying, “I don’t know where they would get food from if it weren’t here.” We’re inspired by our veterans like Dale, who despite their own hardships, continue to show up for those who need it most. This Veterans Day we hope you join us in honoring those who inspire you, too!

Razhi is a promising wide receiver who says the key to playing well, and winning, is good nutrition, “I can’t be hungry or else I’ll be tired on the field.” Razhi is one of many students who take part in the At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program sponsored by Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, which provides more than 68,000 meals to students at eleven participating schools during the school year. Over the past 21 years, our partnership with Ole South Properties, Inc. has grown into one that has provided lasting benefits to our neighbors in need. Since 2003, Ole South has helped provide over 80 million meals to families across our service area, completed nearly 300 volunteer hours, and has been a steadfast sponsor of our Full campaign for the past seven years. In 2022, they took their support further by purchasing a truck for Second Harvest that has delivered over 132 million pounds of food to families across Middle and West Tennessee.
