WOW! Yesterday afternoon was spent packing with our favorite NFL team - the Carolina Panthers, our favorite soccer team - Charlotte FC, and our wonderful friends from the Dave and Nicole Tepper Foundation! We can't thank them enough for joining us at the food bank to pack 1500 hunger relief boxes for our friends in Asheville and in counties hit hard by #HurricaneHelene. The Dave & Nicole Tepper Foundation gifted our organization with $300,000 to go towards food designated for these areas and it means so much. The food bank in Asheville and our partner agencies in counties like Rutherford (home to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock), Burke County, Cleveland County, Lincoln County, and more, recovery will take a very long time - but we are there for them. We have to share some more GOOD NEIGHBORS news to share today. On Wed. our friends from the Georgia Peanut Commission delivered a FULL TRACTOR TRAILER load to #shmetrolina for us to distribute between our partner food bank in Asheville, the Winston Salem food bank, and our food bank - to distribute between our 24 county service region - which includes heavily hit counties like Rutherford County (Lake Lure & Chimney Rock). As of today, #shmetrolina has delivered 15 truckloads into the impacted areas of Asheville (Buncombe County), Watauga County, Rutherford County (Lake Lure, Chimney Rock area), and to the Upstate of SC (Spartanburg).?Over 38,000 food boxes totaling over half a million pounds.? Without the helping hands of our wonderful donors, this could not be accomplished.?As funds come in, more food is purchased/collected, boxes are packed, and trucks are reloaded.?We will be with our friends in Western NC until they no longer need our help. A huge thank you to our friend Michael Jordan and 23XI Racing for their caring and generous donation of $500,000 to our food bank. This will enable us to help our friends at Manna Food Bank, Inc. and the food bank in Winston Salem, along with so many of our agencies in our 24 county service region who have been impacted. Our agencies in approximately 12 counties, including Rutherford County / Rutherford County Government NC - where beautiful Lake Lure and their Chimney Rock have been destroyed, are struggling with no power, no water, and other damages to their locations. We are working directly with our partners who are on the ground to make sure that all those in need of food, water, cleaning supplies, household goods, and more receive items.
