The Food Bank only conducts fundraising efforts through established partners and with permission from pre-approved locations. Second Harvest will never condone collection efforts that are unsafe. We urge the community to report solicitation scams to authorities and to offer support through our official channels via website, phone, or mail. Yesterday and today, we were joined by two groups of Publix Super Markets employees and leaders, who donated their time to volunteer through their Publix Serves program. Thank you for being Hunger Action Heroes this?#HungerActionMonth! Second Harvest is incredibly grateful to Publix for their financial coverage of our co-branded truck purchase, specifically designated for use at our mobile pantries. Publix will also be contributing additional produce and dry goods to be transported in this truck for mobile pantries once it's in service. These generous efforts from Publix are part of their increased support of food banks since the pandemic. Thank you!

At Second Harvest, we’re seeking out ways to simplify food access for our East Tennessee families experiencing food insecurity. In a #HungerActionMonth message brought to you by Clayton, one of the ways we do this is through our School Pantry program, which operates in counties that see the greatest need for food, experience the highest economic disadvantage, and are underserved by other community resources. School pantries are like typical food pantries, but are conveniently located on school property, a familiar location for both the parent and child. In the 2023-2024 school year, 316,243 pounds of food were delivered to school pantries, at a $0 cost for the schools, families, and children receiving. Have you ever wondered how a Food Bank really works? Brought to you by our friends at Hearthside Bank, our?food bank’s operations start with generous donations of food and funds. The majority of food is purchased with those funds in bulk and stored in our 92k square foot facility. Volunteers then donate their time to sort/evaluate donated goods, and pack purchased bulk goods. Simultaneously, our warehouse staff pulls orders for our agencies. Lastly, food is distributed through our 670+ Partner Agencies to reach East Tennesseans experiencing food insecurity. It takes a village, and we’re so happy that you’re a part of ours. This past Thursday, Second Harvest hosted a CookAbility cooking class at our facility in the Nutrition Learning Center. CookAbility is an inclusive class using adaptive tools and easy-to-prepare recipes where adults with disabilities are welcome to grow their confidence and independence in the kitchen. The folks in attendance made fruit salsa, enjoyed it with pita chips, and were given take-home bags to make more using the skills and instructions they learned. We'd like to thank Food Lion Feeds for their continuous support of our Nutrition Access program. Classes such as CookAbility play an essential role in our educational efforts towards alleviating food insecurity in East Tennessee. Thank you!
