What a week for Seaworthy Collective and our community from coast to (Florida) coast! While Kelsey Rumburg represented us at the Synapse Florida Summit in Tampa / St. Pete with our partners in The Continuum, University of Miami Climate Resilience Institute hosted its Resilience 365 summit, where we got to co-host their first-ever pitch session alongside our friends at Marine Research Hub of South Florida and VoLo Earth Ventures! Seaworthy shared one last opportunity for founders to register for The Shoreline beta as we finally are about to launch our new platform next week! The pitch event featured 3 Seaworthy startups and founders from cohorts 3 and 4; Mohamed Ismail and Castus Technologies (we missed you Gic Mohamed Gad!), Yadira Diaz and Gradible, and Jazmin Locke-Rodriguez PhD and Phytoflora by Green Thumb Strategies. We also got to see cohort 1 alum Anya Freeman and Kind Designs rock the stage, and made some noise at our roundtable on the economics of water alongside Charlotte Hoffman! Yesterday, we also hosted our first event of the year at our HQ at the Miami Yacht Club, co-working with community for a gorgeous afternoon yesterday! The feedback from attendees was great and we will definitely be bringing it back for another day next month! Thrilled to see Seaworthy founders and community members come together, with shout outs to Anele Bloch (née Makhwaza) and Magali Mendez for hanging out until the very end along with resident hype man Ernesto Ariel Y.! Things are certainly ramping up with eventful spring and summer months ahead!

At this year’s Synapse Florida Summit, Shannon Pastizzo (USF CONNECT), Linda Olson (Tampa Bay Wave), and Kelsey Rumburg (Seaworthy Collective) shared how their organizations are leading the charge in growing Florida’s blue economy. The panel discussion was called, ""Accelerating the Marine Economy: Tampa Bay’s Innovative Accelerator Program." This dynamic panel highlighted their collaboration on NOAA’s first-ever Ocean-Based Climate Resilience Accelerators program. They are one of 4 in nation awarded this grant for a project called the Continuum Ocen Entreprise Accelerator. This funding supports the development and commercialization of technologies aimed at enhancing ocean and coastal resilience. Panel highlights included: ?? Florida, with the second-longest coastline in the U.S., is emerging as a national leader in blue tech ?? The project supports companies working on solutions like autonomous hurricane sensors, dual-use defense tech, and even 3D-printed eco-seawalls ?? The partnership between USF CONNECT, Tampa Bay Wave, Seaworthy Collective, and the St. Pete Innovation District and others brings together academic research, startup acceleration, and real-world commercialization pathways ?? This week we are highlighting a returning board member, Scarlett Lanzas, MPA! Scarlett Lanzas is a social entrepreneur and nonprofit management executive with a demonstrated history of working with public and private sector agencies, nonprofits and international development and humanitarian organizations. Scarlett supports causes ranging from civic engagement, social and environmental justice, and the protection of human rights around the world. Scarlett founded Accountable Impact, a nonprofit organization activating local and global networks to accelerate and localize the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in South Florida. At the United Nations World Food Programme, she worked in international development programs and humanitarian food assistance in emergency operations, relief, and recovery operations. Scarlett was appointed Chair of the Community Board?for Climate Week Miami 2024-2030, an inclusive platform to engage local organizations, policymakers, corporate visionaries, youth, scientists, entrepreneurs, and produce high-level discussions on various cross-cutting issues and solutions on climate threats. She co-founded Social Impact Movement, a Miami nonprofit organization and a catalyst for change for youth activism on the SDGs. Scarlett serves on the Board of Directors of Seaworthy Collective and IMPACT.EDITION Magazine. She serves as Ambassador to Breadline Africa, an NGO based in Cape Town providing infrastructure to support early childhood development. Scarlett is committed to fostering relationships and developing partnerships with organizations that work on the achievement of the UN SDGs.?
