The ASCE Seattle Section Geotechnical Group & Geo-Institute-Seattle Chapter and ASCE Seattle Section had our annual joint meeting last Thursday night at Art Marble in South Lake Union. We had Andrew Fiske, the State Geotechnical Engineer for Washington State Department of Transportation, present on “Bridging the Gap: The Critical Role of Geotechnical-Civil Collaboration in Risk Management”. Andrew’s presentation included an overview of risks we face in our projects such as schedule, budget, varying geology, site access, and environmental restrictions, to name a few, and a current case study. The presentation was capped off with an overview of the I-90 Snoqualmie Phase III project including highlights of a field investigation program for 70-foot tall retaining walls, change of conditions encountered during construction, and how the project team collaborated and moved through them. The night was sold out with 70/70 attendees with 20/70 being students. Thank you again to Andrew for taking the time to put together this presentation for us. If you or your firm are interested in sponsoring student attendance from last night please visit the link below. Each sponsorship is $100 and allows us to keep student attendance free for these events moving forward. As part of the sponsorship you will get recognition during our next dinner meeting with a thank you during our introductory remarks + your logo on our announcement slides and a shout out in our follow up LinkedIn post. Thank you to Terracon for being last night’s student sponsor. https://lnkd.in/gCZAwTc4?
