I had a fabulous time celebrating African Community Housing & Development yesterday. Thank you to Bilan Aden, M. Ed and Hamdi Abdulle for their incredible servant leadership. What a great afternoon and chance to connect with old friends like Sophia Benalfew, Matthew Echohawk-Hayashi, and De'Sean Quinn and making new friends like Hamdi Mohamed and Dr. Lynne Robinson (Katie Kuciemba Halse we missed you!). I hope everyone gets to know more about ACHD; the Equitable Development Initiative has partnered with ACHD to support their Seattle International Public Market project and appreciate all they do to provide affordable and safe housing and community services and programs that change lives. #communitybuilding #communitydevelopment
? Thanks to you, Journey Home was a huge success! The warmth and heart present in that room was palpable. ACHD is proud of the work we've been able to accomplish thus far, and with support from incredible people like you, we stand even taller while we advocate for and amplify the voices of the African Diaspora. To echo Zzaj Collins' words today, the weight of social norms should never impact our audacity to belong. Each of us should stand firm. Our presence in the room has power, which should always compel us to action. It is this strength and wisdom that compels our team and our community to do the work each and every day, and today, we welcome you to take a seat at our proverbial table. ?? In Community, Hamdi, Bilan, and the ACHD Team ???? P.S. Missed today's event but want to show your support? Donate today using the link in our bio or at: https://lnkd.in/gtkdh-Bk

In Episode 9 of Curiosity at Work, Julie Pham, PhD spoke with Rico Quirindongo, the Director of the Office of Planning and Community Development (OPCD) at the City of Seattle. With over a decade of collaboration, Rico shared the immense work his team of 50 is doing to address the needs of one of the fastest-growing cities in the US. Rico emphasized the role of curiosity in urban planning. Practicing curiosity in the public eye is challenging, especially in a political context where experimentation and failure are often not well received. But balancing curiosity with pragmatic solutions is necessary for his team to meet community expectations. Watch the podcast and share ?? Https://youtu.be/etw8Rgi2EZA

"To assist in the ongoing planning efforts surrounding the Reconnect South Park initiative, the federal government awarded $1.6 million in RCP funds to Seattle in 2022. Thus far, state funds have been used to explore four possible options to reimagine the SR-99 corridor: mitigation of adverse impacts, building a tunnel over the corridor, converting the corridor to a boulevard, or removing it entirely. Federal dollars will help further refine each possibility, centering the conversation around connectivity, safety, and equity."
