Last week, City of Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and staff from the Office of Housing took U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Assistant Secretary Kimberly McClain on a tour of Fort Lawton. Our vision for Fort Lawton transforms it into a vibrant community, building up to 500 affordable homes (including one of the largest homeownership developments in the world), preserving 22 acres of green space, and addressing past injustices. Join us in opening doors to Magnolia's opportunities and creating a diverse, sustainable future for all. We're looking forward to our continued partnership with HUD and moving this development along to serve the residents of Seattle.

Groundbreaking new developments are underway in Phinney Ridge! The Seattle Office of Housing is proud to support Homestead Community Land Trust in constructing 38 new permanently affordable condos at 5819 Phinney Ave N. (Woodland View) and 6109 Phinney Ave N. (Nest). ? ? “That means 38 permanently affordable homes for income-qualified households; for our teachers, health-care workers, retail service workers, government and nonprofit employees whose income is just a fraction of what’s needed to buy a median-priced home in Phinney Ridge,” says Maiko Winkler-Chin, Director of the Seattle Office of Housing. ? ? The inspiration behind Woodland View comes from Chakorn Phisuthikul and Marilyn Heinemann, who generously donated their property to create lasting affordable housing in their neighborhood. The couple share the vision that modest-income people will have the opportunity to find an affordable home in the community where they work. Chakorn, an architect committed to neighborhood integrity, and Marilyn, a former schoolteacher, hope their gift will inspire others. ? ? “We’re not famous philanthropists; we’re just people who’ve worked hard and saved. We believe there are others like us, and we hope they are inspired to contribute what they can to affordable housing,” says Marilyn. ? ?
