  • ?? Lost Bach, Found! In 2005, Michael Maul, now the Artistic Director of the Bach Archive in Leipzig, discovered a completely unknown Bach aria—"Alles mit Gott und nichts ohn' ihn." Here are three things you may not know about this hidden gem: 1?? It’s the only surviving trophic aria by J.S. Bach. 2?? • ??? Meet Stef Crestwell and their incredible viola! This period instrument replica, crafted right here in Seattle in 1990, brings Baroque music to life in the most authentic way. So, what makes this viola unique? 1?? It has a shorter neck and less wood on the fingerboard than modern violas. 2?? While it shares the same outline and materials as today’s violas, it’s missing a chin rest or shoulder rest—those weren’t invented until the 19th century! Experience the rich, historical sounds of period instruments like this at the Seattle Bach Festival. ??? ?? • ??? Do you know the story behind Seattle’s new Bach Festival? Meet Tekla Cunningham, a talented Baroque violinist from Seattle who made it all happen! Tekla saw a need for an organization dedicated to bringing larger-scale works of Bach and Baroque music to life in Seattle. When two similar organizations closed last year, she knew it was the perfect moment to start something new. By collaborating with the incredible artists of the Pacific Northwest, she’s created a vibrant festival that celebrates music, community, and beauty. ??? Join us as we continue this exciting journey with unforgettable performances, passionate artists, and the timeless music of J.S. Bach. ?? • ??? Let’s meet Tekla’s violin! This stunning instrument came to Seattle from Venice, Italy, and was crafted in 1746—right at the tail end of the Baroque era. With its rich history and gorgeous sound, it’s no wonder it loves playing Baroque music as much as Tekla does! From its craftsmanship to its connection with Baroque traditions, this violin is a treasure that brings Bach’s music to life. Want to hear it in action? Experience incredible performances at the Seattle Bach Festival! #SeattleBachFestival #BaroqueViolin #BaroqueMusic #SeattleArts ???

  • ??? What instrument is this? Hint: It’s got LOTS of strings (we’re talking serious tuning skills here!) and never fails to turn heads at our concerts. ?? Meet the theorbo played by John Lenti! With its strikingly long neck and additional bass strings, the theorbo was a Baroque-era favorite. The theorbo was invented in Italy around 1580 and was used for accompanying singers in operas, church music, and secular songs in addition to being used for basso continuo, a performance practice that combined composed bass notes with improvised harmonies. Curious to hear the theorbo live? Our upcoming concerts are filled with incredible Baroque instruments, talented musicians, and unforgettable moments. ??? #SeattleBachFestival #Theorbo #BaroqueMusic #SeattleArts ???
