In our age filled with too much dissent and awful news, WHOI’s celebratory Valentine’s showcase of some of the loving & extraordinary behavior of ocean creatures bears revisiting. Take THAT, AI. Mother Nature still smarter than all of us and our machines. #whoi #bekind #oceanEQ https://lnkd.in/ewHK-yDE

"Dull, dirty and dangerous” is how one Uncrewed Systems Technology writer describes the often grueling work of ocean data collection. Offshore construction, climate science, and marine conservation have long relied on costly, manned vessels for the data they need. SeaTrac’s signature SP-48 USV is turning the tides on this type of data collection in a way that’s sustainable, cost-effective, and wildly efficient. A big "thank you" to Marine Technology Reporter for featuring our hypoxia mapping mission with The University of Southern Mississippi and NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration! The article details our two-phase, remote operations in the Gulf of Mexico that proved the efficiency, reliability and sustainability of using uncrewed vehicles to gather critical oceanographic data. Our data harvesting mission with Sonardyne International Ltd was a successful one of several firsts for an uncrewed vessel in the challenging Gulf of Mexico. This project was completed on behalf of the University of Rhode Island, and funded by the National Academy of Sciences. Thanks to Marine Technology Reporter for its detailed article sharing the successes of phase one. This ongoing mission will provide critical insights into the region's Loop Current System with helpful implications in a number of related industries. 580 nautical miles with ZERO carbon footprint, and Sonardyne "delighted with the results." Thank you URI, NAS, LUMCON and Sonardyne for a productive and exciting data harvesting collab. And Marine Technology News for spreading word. Even autonomy requires a village and SeaTrac appreiciates ours. #loopcurrent #sonarydyne #GOMdataharvesting #URI #LUMCON https://lnkd.in/eEpyxkv2

Our new case study on offshore data harvesting is now available! Sponsored by the University of Rhode Island and in collaboration with underwater technology company Sonardyne International Ltd., our teams collected crucial oceanographic data in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico’s Loop Current System (LCS) using Sonardyne's HPT 7000L transceiver aboard our SP-48 USV. Learn how we integrated our technologies for the first time to partner on subsea operations, hurricane research, monitoring marine life and more. Leave it to a nautical town to offer something creative and festive from the sea. In the “one person’s trash is another’s treasure” department, check out the wreath made from repurposed plastic currently hanging on the wall at Sweetwater, in Marblehead, MA. An uplifting thought for all blue tech innnovators: let’s not add to but rather take away from the ocean’s problems? #giftsofthesea #happynewyear #oceanplasticremediation

For the ocean lover on your shopping list. Or for yourself, just in time to calm that holiday-induced, frenzied feeling, an OH SO ELOQUENT AND SPELLBINDING ODE TO THE OCEAN. Sample: “The course of civilization is carved in ocean currents, where sea layers mix, where rains travel, or waste layers spread. Where great upwellings bring deep cold nutrient-rich waters to the energy-bathed surface and fish go mad with fecundity. Where soils turn fertile or anemic, where temperatures turn habitable or harsh, where trade routes flourish or fail. All this, the global ocean engine determines. The fate of continents is written in water.” https://lnkd.in/eEwG8CKQ #oceans #metocean #playground
