关于我们
For nearly 50 years, SEARHC has provided high-quality healthcare services to the residents of Southeast Alaska. Operating as an independent and nonprofit health Consortium, SEARHC provides a comprehensive range of health-related services, including primary, urgent and specialty medical care, dental services, behavioral health support, wellness programs, optometry services and more. We are dedicated to improving the health, well-being and quality of life for all people in these communities. SEARHC is committed to keeping care closer to home and making advanced medical technologies accessible to all. One of the many ways SEARHC does this is by offering specialty clinics or sending medical specialists to remote communities and facilities to care for patients who cannot travel. Established in 1975, SEARHC is one of the largest Native-run health organizations in the United States. In 1976, SEARHC contracted with the Indian Health Service under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act to assume management of the Community Health Aide Program. Today, SEARHC has more than 1,700 employees and operates in 27 communities throughout Southeast Alaska, including two Critical Access Hospitals.

My name is Bonnie Hamar and I’m a SEARHC Patient Experience Representative. Recently, I participated in a powerful journey that not only tested my endurance but also deepened my connection to my heritage. My family, rooted in Kasaan, embarked on a traditional canoe journey to Celebration, the biennial Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultural festival in Juneau. My husband and son carved the cedar canoes themselves and with 16 paddlers from Kasaan and Ketchikan, we set out on our almost 300 mile journey. The journey was anything but easy. Stormy forecasts initially forced us to transport our canoes by land and once on the water, choppy seas challenged us, with waves breaching our canoe’s sides. But as we paddled, we embodied this year’s Celebration theme, “Together We Live in Balance.” The journey was a true testament to the strength and unity of our communities, both Native and non-Native. We were supported by several communities rallying with gear, food and encouragement. Despite the challenges, including illness spreading among our group, we found respite and revival on a secluded island. When we finally arrived in Juneau, the sense of unity, cultural connection and the warm reception reminded us all that by coming together, we create a healthier, more vibrant future. This journey wasn’t just a physical challenge; it was a profound experience that highlighted the importance of community, heritage and well-being. It strengthened my identity, resilience and connection to my ancestors and left a lasting impact on all of us involved. #searhc #southeastalaska #SEAKcommunity

In Southeast Alaska, we’ve always known the strength of community. When nature tests us, we lean on each other, showing the true spirit of our region—one where neighbors help neighbors and we come together to rebuild. The recent floods in Juneau were a stark reminder of the challenges we face, but they also highlighted the power of unity. Dawson Construction exemplified this spirit, stepping in to support our SEARHC employees when they needed it most. As Matt Carle, our Senior System Director of Marketing and Communications, shared, "Teamwork makes the dream work and we're grateful for partners like Dawson Construction who rallied to help provide support for our employees." We’re proud to be part of a community that rises together, no matter the challenge. Thank you to everyone who has lent a hand and helped our Southeast Alaskan family recover. We will rebuild, stronger and more united than ever. #searhc #southeastalaska ??: City and Borough of Juneau

It's National Breastfeeding Month and at SEARHC, we’re committed to creating a workplace that fully supports breastfeeding employees. Balancing work and motherhood is not always easy, but with the right support, it can be easier for moms to continue providing milk for their infants. Here are some tips to foster a breastfeeding-friendly environment: ?? Flexible Break Times: Ensure that breastfeeding moms have flexible breaks to pump, thus reducing stress and supporting milk supply. ?? Private, Comfortable Spaces: Provide clean, private spaces equipped with comfortable seating and outlets for pumping and a nearby sink/water supply. ?? Open Communication: Encourage open dialogue between employees and management to discuss needs and create supportive schedules. Supporting breastfeeding employees not only benefits families but also contributes to a healthier, more productive workplace. Together, we can empower working moms to continue their breastfeeding journey and play a major role in building healthy families.

“Everybody says their baby is the most beautiful, but our baby was truly the most beautiful. Cade, my 3-year-old joy, brightens every room with his smile. It was during the pandemic, but when we finally had a playdate with another baby his same age, it was like night and day. Despite missing milestones, every pediatrician said, 'he'll catch up,' until he didn't. In summer 2023, we underwent genetic sequencing. The doctor walked in and said, 'we have a diagnosis,' and my heart sank to the pit of my stomach. Cade has AP4 Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (SPG50), a rare and degenerative disease. Only a hundred people in the world have this condition, and dad and I share the same faulty gene. We were heartbroken, but we clung to hope. All I wanted in the coming days after the diagnosis was a change in diet, a vitamin regimen...but there was no treatment — until Dylan learned somebody was developing one. A new gene therapy offers a chance, but funding is short. We’re determined to raise the necessary funds to give Cade the treatment he needs. Our love for him fuels our fight. Cade’s happiness is our strength, and we’ll do everything to ensure he has a brighter future. The medicine exists; we just need help.” - Emma Jobsis, whose child, Cade, is a SEARHC Physical Rehab patient and WIC recipient. Cade’s journey has touched so many hearts in the community, and many have come out to show incredible support, including many recent fundraising events. Together, we can make a difference. You can learn more about him and how you can help at cureforcade.com. #SEAKCommunity #searhc #cureforcade
