Had a great conversation with my long-time friend and business partner Loren Baker, founder of Search Engine Journal, on SEO Rewind about the latest Google core update. The timing of this update is interesting (definitely challenging for some), dropping right before Black Friday and hitting some major publishers hard. Forbes, CNN, and WSJ are seeing significant drops in rankings, especially in their product review sections. What really stands out here is that while these big publishers are struggling, sites like Reddit and Wirecutter are doing incredibly well. It makes sense when you think about it: people trust real, in-depth discussions and genuine product experiences more than quick affiliate listicles. Quick takeaways from our chat: - Google's not buying the "it was a third-party contributor" excuse anymore for thin affiliate content - Real community discussions (like what you see on Reddit) are crushing it in search results - Big publishers are going to need to seriously rethink their approach to product review content Looking at these changes, it's pretty clear that Google's pushing hard for better quality content that actually helps users make decisions.
