????SEARCH Senior Project Manager Timothy Parsons stopped by Coffee with Jim & James to discuss the intersection of archaeology and energy projects, uncovering how #CulturalResources play a critical role in projects involving natural gas and infrastructure development. From unearthing 12,000-year-old archaeological sites to navigating wildlife protections (like the gopher tortoise), Tim describes how SEARCH ensures that projects meet environmental regulations while preserving the history beneath our feet. ?? SEARCH recently conducted a detailed assessment of the 1878-built iron hulled sailing ship ?????????? ???? ??????????. After years of neglect, the ship has lost its historic integrity and is in the process of being delisted from the National Register of Historic Places. SEARCH Senior Vice President James P. Delgado conducted the original study of the ship for its designation in 1990 and led the reassessment of it three decades later. Lead Architectural Historian Mikel Travisano conducted additional documentation for the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) together with Pete Kelsey. They used large format photography and #LiDAR scanning to record the interior and exterior of this sadly decayed, now inaccessible vessel. #Emesent #Hovermap #Hawaii Emesent

Earlier this month, more than 200 visitors joined SEARCH and a dozen participating organizations in celebrating Virginia archaeology at Arctoberfest. Local staff including Varna Boyd, Sarah Winner, and Patrick Merrigan were on hand to answer questions about terrestrial and maritime archaeology as well as museum work. To help make the day even more memorable, we offered kids (and adults!) the opportunity to dress up as an archaeologist for a photo op in front of an excavation backdrop. Thanks to the Fairfax County Park Authority for hosting this event and inviting us to participate! #Virginia #Archaeology #CulturalResources
