So focused last night on getting the first Seaport Systems Captain's Log in 5 months published, I didn't realize it was the 20th installment - a milestone worth celebrating I think! Building Seaport Systems is easily the hardest thing I've ever done, and 2024 was the hardest year of my life. I sacrificed a lot and got my ass kicked, but I also built a ton of cool tech and learned a lot along the way. Thanks to everyone who got me over the line! Check out Entry 20 (https://lnkd.in/dBTJ27VX), and we'll celebrate real big when 25 gets published!

Seaport Systems is bringing never before seen ocean + environmental data to our blue economies and working waterfronts.
关于我们
Seaport Systems is developing a suite of environmental monitoring tools that can help all stakeholders of our oceans understand, adapt and thrive. Today, we are focused on developing two environmental monitoring buoys to give aquaculturists and researchers never before seen visibility into the water around their operations.

Ocean data is the final piece we need to unlock aquaculture at scale. Plymouth Foundation invited me to their Blue Future Conference last week to speak to that effect! It was an honor to share some of my thoughts and how Seaport Systems is going to be able to help aquaculture scale in the short term. Big thanks to Plymouth Foundation for having me; Kim G. for inviting me to speak on the panel; and to my fellow panelists for listening to my rants and the engaging discussion: Michael Cahill Laura Anderson Chad Hunter Town of Plymouth, Massachusetts Eddy Analytics, Inc #aquaculture #innovation #oceanography #iot

Evolution! Seaport Systems is expanding in to Maine. Since 2021 Seaport Systems has been proud to call the Boston Autodesk Technology Center its home. We’ve done a lot of really incredible prototyping, design and fabrication, but always knew the future would be elsewhere. . While we'll remain engaged in Boston, on Monday we started moving into TechPlace in Brunswick, Maine. Here we’re going to gear up and begin production of DB-X buoys in support of Coastal Measures and all other stakeholders in our waterways. . Thank you to everyone who has supported us this far, and got us ready to take this next big leap. . #manufacturing #prototyping #making #madeinusa #madeintheusa #madeinmaine

Tl;dr: Looking for folks fascinated with citizen science, open-source hardware and building communities around these efforts. Also interested in exploring how to tie citizen science projects and K-12 education! Know anybody? Long story long: Last week I had the first of hopefully many chats about citizen science with Keenan Johnson who's been working on building out Ribbit Network - a network of open-source sensors measuring greenhouse gasses. Ribbit has a lot of parallels to what I'm trying to build at Seaport Systems for oceanographic data. It's been an incredible reference as I think about expanding the impact I/Seaport Systems can have. There's so much we can learn from our oceans and waterways but historically ocean data collection has been pretty much out of reach for anyone interested. Thankfully, that's no longer the case. I want to make sure that the low-cost water monitoring technology I've been working on makes it into the hands of people who can use or learn from the collected data! To that end, I'm looking to connect with people who have thoughts, interest or experience with citizen science projects, open-source hardware, and community building. #iot #internetofthings #opensourcehardware #oshwa #citizenscience #oceanography #oceanographic #sensing #climate #sustainability #aquaculture #fishing #commercialfishing #seaweed #education

A few months ago I started a blog. It's astoundingly unclear if it's my blog, or Seaport Systems' blog, but the point is, I've been consistently posting every week with updates on what's happened and what's to come. (https://lnkd.in/eYC_c8AV) Running a company by myself has resulted in a strange melting pot of emotions. It's exhilarating, freeing and rewarding. It's exhausting, risky, and lonely. It's also all too easy to become complacent and lazy. I don't have a boss, and nobody to answer to but myself. I miss the accountability sometimes, I really appreciate the freedom others. Building in public, and specifically documenting the day-to-day work makes progress a lot easier to come by. So that's what the Captain's Log is: public accountability! The 10th blog is out now (https://lnkd.in/eJKG8TFr) you can check out the back catalog here (https://lnkd.in/eYC_c8AV), and you can subscribe for future updates over here (https://lnkd.in/eqGgFSxg)! I try to keep it lighthearted and cheeky, nothing too polished, no double-speak or anything like that!
