?? Breaking Barriers in Flood Prevention! ?? I am beyond excited to share that Nexuma has been awarded the NSF SBIR Phase 1 grant for our research and development work on SEALOR! After moving to Miami last year, I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of extreme flooding in South Florida—a reality that sparked my drive to innovate a solution. That solution—SEALOR—has now received its first development capital, allowing our team to take significant steps forward in our mission to prevent and control flooding across the region. Our research focuses on advancing Microbially Induced Carbonate Precipitation (MICP) to develop a subsurface barrier system that seals the porous and karst Miami limestone, preventing bottom-up flooding caused by rising sea levels and intensifying rainstorms. Unlike traditional methods, SEALOR is an eco-friendly, carbon-negative technology that strengthens natural limestone while capturing and locking away CO?. ?? Our Key Milestones: ? Creating a Proof of Concept of the technology in the lab environment ? Preparing for a prototype project for a follow up project ? Delivering our biobased and ecofriendly projections of the solution ? Conducting lab experimentation and feasibility studies to accelerate the process. This grant marks the beginning of a groundbreaking journey in urban resilience, and we’re proud to collaborate with Nova Southeastern University on this initiative. Our work has the potential to redefine flood prevention for coastal cities worldwide, protecting communities, infrastructure, and economies from the growing threats of climate change. Celebrating one year of Nexuma: From 0 to 1, and ready to scale to 10! ?? Today, it is exactly one year ago since we founded Nexuma in Miami, Florida. We started at 0.0 with only an ambitious drive and vision to help planet positive start-ups to champion and grow faster to address climate change mitigation faster. We are grateful to all the start-ups, scale ups and corporate companies who we could support with our company building experience, connected experts, and help with access to capital. I am happy to say that in one year of time we built a company from 0 to 1, and we are excited for continuing our growth and impact from 1 to 10! In a nutshell, we ??
