关于我们

Founded in 1972, Sealaska has been evolving from a land-management-focused company to a services-focused company with an emphasis on sustainable industries. There are three major business groups under the umbrella of Sealaska: Government Services, Natural Resources and Natural Foods: - Sealaska Government Services is a full-service company with a worldwide reach in the areas of water and energy management, construction, data management and analytics. - Sealaska Natural Resources group takes the balanced approach to achieve sustainable growth and long-term benefit for land management and economic development. - We have been using a rigorous and intentional investment process to build a Natural Foods business group through acquisition, which has been highlighted as a key strategic initiative to achieve increased profitability. At Sealaska, we’re invested in Indigenous languages, ensuring the growth of our mother tongues for future generations. Here’s a glimpse into the impact of one of our current language grant recipients. At the Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC), language teachers Ahl’lidaaw Gitackangeak, Shuguyna Donna May Roberts and Miquel Dangeli have been inspiring learners of the Tsimshian dialect Sm’algyax through methods including Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS). In TPRS, teachers use storytelling to engage students, emphasizing comprehension and verbal ability over traditional grammar and vocabulary skills. Highlights from this year include seasonal classes to provide a thematic approach to language learning, translating “Flora Wants Seaweed” and other stories to Sm’algyax, developing PDF resources, delivering presentations and assisting with the 6th International Tlingit Spelling Bee. Thank you to the KIC team for their important work! Sealaska’s $10 million language revitalization endowment, approved by the Board of Directors in 2019, funds these grants—$500,000 annually—to preserve Southeast Alaska’s languages. Malia Towne is getting her boots wet (and maybe a little scaly) this summer as she interns with Alaska Longline Fishermen's Association in Sitka. This opportunity is offered through a cooperative partnership between Sealaska and ALFA, which share a commitment to healthy, sustainable fisheries and the families and communities they feed. "I’m really seeing the impacts of what a sustainable fishing community can be,” said Malia. Natalie Sattler, ALFA’s co-deputy director and communications and program director, agrees: "In the world of fish, we share a lot, we’re used to serving common goals: healthy communities and fisheries.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gKEfi4GA
