SIRF held its 11th?Annual SIRF Soiree this year in Palm Springs, CA! The night's theme was "Oceans of Wellness.” The event featured Dr. William Aronson, Professor of Urology; Chief of Urologic Oncology, West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center; Chief of Urology, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. ? Dr. Aronson spoke about his research that found a diet low in omega-6 and high in omega-3 fatty acids, combined with fish oil supplements, significantly reduces the growth rate of prostate cancer cells in men with early-stage disease. His research was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology:?https://lnkd.in/e34xZcqa ? The event raised $37,250 for seafood research. Thank you to everyone for your continued support and for joining us! Beginning New Year with Progress: A Transformative Update in Cancer Research! We’re excited to share a pivotal breakthrough in cancer research that highlights the powerful connection between diet and health. A recent study funded by the Seafood Industry Research Fund (SIRF) demonstrates the extraordinary benefits of omega-3-rich seafood in combating prostate cancer progression. Published by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), this rigorous study, led by Dr. William J. Aronson and his team at UCLA, examined the impact of a high omega-3, low omega-6 diet supplemented with fish oil over one year. The findings are remarkable: a significant reduction in the Ki-67 index, a biomarker for prostate cancer progression, metastasis, and death, was observed in men under active surveillance.? It is widely known that cold-water oily fish, such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel, are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids, underscoring the vital role of seafood in preventive healthcare. At CenSea, we’re proud to support SIRF’s mission to advance health and sustainability. Our Co-President, Jeff Stern, serves on SIRF’s board, reflecting our deep commitment to impactful initiatives that enhance lives through quality seafood.
