We enjoyed giving them a tour and sharing more about our services. A special thank you to Capt. Their goal of opening a seafarer center in the Port of Kingston is truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see it come to life! Seafarers’ House at Port Everglades is a non-profit organization supported by the faith-based community as well as by labor, business and civic leaders with a mission “to offer refuge, resources, renewal and respect to the maritime community through multi-faith service.” Open throughout the year, Seafarers’ House is a safe, friendly place where mariners can connect with their families, relax, or get emergency assistance if needed. With the help of its supporters and volunteers, Seafarers' House offers many services including low cost international phone calls, free transportation, Internet access, counseling services, emergency assistance and liaison with authorities as well as recreational facilities. Seafarers’ House was recently honored as the 2012 Seafarers’ Center of the Year by the International Committee on Seafarers’ Welfare – the first American agency to receive this international honor. Seafarers’ House annually hosts as many as 150,000 visits by cruise and cargo ship crewmembers as well as port workers.

Last night, following our Seafarers' House Board meeting, we held a heartfelt farewell reception for Jennifer Stewart. ?? Over the course of her tenure, Jennifer has been an extraordinary leader, dedicating her time, energy, and passion to advancing the mission of Seafarers' House. Her remarkable contributions include overseeing the construction of our new Center, expanding programs to better serve seafarers, and strengthening key community partnerships. Under her leadership, Seafarers' House has navigated unprecedented challenges and emerged stronger than ever. Jennifer's vision and leadership have touched countless lives, and her legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come. While we are deeply saddened by her departure, we fully support her decision and are immensely grateful for her lasting impact. As we bid farewell to Jennifer, we also look ahead with excitement as we embark on a new chapter with our incoming Executive Director, Launa Carbonell, MBA.
