It’s a glimpse into what happens when young minds are empowered to lead their learning with creativity, curiosity, and purpose. ??The future of education lies in fostering agency. In teaching kids not just what to think, but how to think, create, and problem-solve. This event brings together schools and organizations that share a belief in innovation and the boundless potential of students when given the right tools and trust. When I first arrived in the U.S., I had no roadmap, no network, and barely spoke the language. But I had an unshakable drive and a forever love for fashion and art. I started by volunteering at the Columbus Museum of Art, learning English as I immersed myself in culture. Soon, I was taking classes wherever I could—starting with Columbus College of Art & Design. One of those classes was Fashion Pattern Making. I was terrible at it. Now, 25 years later, I’m not just stepping into CCAD—I’m bringing the next generation with me, straight onto the runway. Through the years, CCAD remained part of my journey. I modeled for Charles Kleibacker, styled Talkingfashion Inc. vintage pieces for photoshoots, watched our interns graduate, and showcased Columbus Fashion Academy upcycled designs in fashion exhibitions. But this moment? This one is different. On March 29, the Columbus Fashion Academy takes the CCAD runway! Our kids, ages 5-12, from our #afterschool program—kids who have spent past 6 weeks designing, upcycling, and dreaming—will walk under the lights, on the same stage where many talented designers have showcased their work. When I told them where the show was going to be, their eyes widened with wonder. And honestly, I don’t know who’s more excited—them or me. I’ve run fashion shows for decades, but this one?
