???? SeaAhead has received funding from the Sector Spark grant to jumpstart and launch our new program! The in-water piloting accelerator program will help startups navigate commercialization barriers by providing easy access to test sites that will validate their technologies. The program also features ample technical support and mentorship throughout the journey. Why are we launching this program? We know that proof-of-concept testing is essential for investment and is encumbered by several barriers. We will navigate those barriers for startups so they can purely focus on testing their technology. Thank you to the The Healey-Driscoll administration and the Innovation Institute at Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. Read the announcement: https://lnkd.in/ejyFUrRD

?? ?? BIG celebrations are in order! On Thursday, March 6th, SeaAhead and the New England Aquarium hosted our fifth BlueSwell Demo Day to honor the seven startups that participated in Cohort V. We were proud to welcome Ashley Stolba, the Undersecretary of Economic Foundations at the Executive Office of Economic Development, as our Guest Speaker. She gave a passionate welcome to our community and showed her commitment to driving Massachusetts forward as an innovation stronghold. We also heard remarks from Letise LaFeir, PhD, Chief of Conservation and Stewardship at the Aquarium who underlined how crucial novel technologies are to conservation efforts. Our very own Alissa Peterson, CEO and co-founder of SeaAhead, made it clear that supporting and investing in groundbreaking blue innovation is the key to a bright blue future for all. If you follow the BlueSwell Program, you know that Demo Day is the capstone event for our cohort members where they pitch directly to our community of investors and partners. They spent the last five months working hard to drive their respective commercialization journeys forward. Please join us in congratulating Cohort V and applauding all of their accomplishments. Keep watch with us as these startups continue to change the game! THE GRADUATES: ?? Jeff Kaeli, Robin Littlefield, and Philip (Rusty) Warren @ ARMADA Marine Robotics ?? ?? We held our 5th Offshore Renewable Energy Summit last month with Massachusetts Clean Energy Center! It was a fantastic evening centering on Innovation in Construction and Innovation in Operations & Maintenance. Our focus across panels was the commercialization journey of technologies and startups in the offshore renewable industry. Startups often face commercialization challenges in getting their technologies to market, and the industry has several constraints that challenge the adoption of new technologies. Some insights from our two panels: ?? The permitting timeline is close to 10 years and is a barrier for startups and often causes them to run out of runway. ?? Startups need a champion from large ORE developers to move forward with pilots and partnerships — someone who understands the tech and the value. ?? Startups can find champions in subcontractors that are pitching for larger contracts.? ?? Developers are willing to test technology on a small scale and see what works. Proof of concept is essential here. ?? ... And more! Extended biographies of the moderators, panelists, and startups are found here:??https://lnkd.in/ezK6f2Dz If you're craving more SeaAhead events, join us this Thursday, March 6 from 5:00-9:00pm for Demo Day, a celebration of the BlueSwell Program's fifth cohort of startups.
