Together with our friends at SE Ventures, we recently got together with students from Stanford University Graduate School of Business x Harvard Business School for a Climate Investing Mixer. Meeting such a big group of curious, committed students was super energizing. Insightful questions were asked. New connections were made. Here are some key takeaways from the event: ?? You don't need to be a technical expert to join a climate company. Climate tech companies are like other companies: they need all kinds of skill sets to be successful. ?? Exploring different opportunities and asking insightful questions are key to finding the role that best aligns with your passions and skills. This is a space that welcomes curiosity and diverse perspectives. ?? Meeting others who share your drive to tackle the climate crisis can lead to unexpected opportunities. Last week on stage at TechCrunch #Disrupt2024, speaking to an audience of Founders & Investors about the opportunity in #ClimateTech and how to effectively cross the “Valley of Death” between Series A and Series B. ? It takes founders 2.5x longer to raise Series B than it did in 2021 (source: Sightline Climate (CTVC)) – and the challenge is even tougher for climate startups facing smaller budgets, slow sales cycles, and customer culture change. Another intimidating stat: 60% of Climate Tech companies have less than 12 months of cash runway (source: SVB) ? So what can founders do?
