???[Software] OK, now that I have this SDT model, what can I do with it ? ?Our interactions with SDT users have highlighted some recurring queries: - What are the data structures used in SDT? (models, deformations, transfers...) - What can I do with each one of them? (examples, tutorials, list of functions, …) - I want to call a specific function/command but what are the required inputs? Which format? Options? Examples? ??Answering these questions clearly relates to how information can be efficiently retrieved from documentation ? ?To tackle this issue, SDTools recently launched an internal process of indexing source code, documentation, and support materials in general with tags. The objective is to build a database linking information about data structure (documentation page, format, examples, …) and function/commands (documentation, syntax, inputs, outputs, options, …). That way keywords or tags can be efficiently searched in the whole SDT and directly provide contextual links of any type. ? ??The following scenario shows how we could navigate in such a database (it corresponds to the post illustration) ?? I want to perform MDRE expansion ?? A1 - Let's have a look at the command documentation page ?? A2 - I need model as first input but what is the SDT model format again? Can I have an example? ?? I have a SDT model ?? B1 - Let's have a look at the SDT structure documentation page ??B2 - What can I do with this model? For instance, MDRE expansion, but this will require additional structures Sens, tdef and RO... do I have them? ??This is also an opportunity to rethink the way documentation is built, through a more automated process to improve consistency and ease maintenance. ??Let’s see in a few months (years? ??) where this goes, but we are motivated!

??? [Software] Parametric Experimental Modal Analysis ?? A few years ago, we collaborated with the SHM team of Laboratoire PIMM on the Experimental Modal Analysis of a polypropylene plate as function of temperature: https://lnkd.in/gYNxjyjU ?? Since then, many other parametric EMA studies have been performed. We have converged toward a standardized strategy that tackles all these analyses using the same framework. ?? This framework relies on two steps. 1- Transfers corresponding to the first system configuration are loaded and EMA is performed manually. 2- Automated optimizations of poles from current configuration to the next one are sequentially performed. This algorithm has been applied to analyze ?? Modal property dispersion in batches of similar components ?? Mode tracking with temperature ?? Mode tracking with excitation amplitude level ?? Other currently ongoing projects ?? We are preparing a short video showcasing this technique. Stay tuned! ??In the meantime, you can still check our base EMA demonstration video: https://lnkd.in/erUMV5eW #Dynamics #Engineering #ExpertsInVibration #Mechanical #NVH #Vibration #VibrationAnalysis #StructuralEngineering #StructuralMechanics #StructuralDynamics #Structures #MechanicalVibration #MATLAB #SDTools #SDT #Constitutive #Materials #ModalAnalysis #VibrationTesting #ExperimentalModalAnalysis #EMA #OperationalModalAnalysis #OMA #polytec #simcenter #testlab #Aerospace #Automotive #AutomotiveEngineering #Rail #Space #Machining #Milling

???[Software] How to ease analysis of spatially sparse vibration shapes ? ? Vibration measurements using accelerometers may be difficult to analyze because few sensors are often available, leading to spatially sparse shapes. Animations of shapes involving single-axis sensors are even more tedious to read. Indeed, one tends to interpret the displayed displacement as the true behavior of the system, whereas motion is possible in directions perpendicular to the sensors (it is just unmeasured) ?? To ease the analysis, SDT implements the Minimum Dynamics Residual Expansion method. It is a frequency domain algorithm that uses the experimental shape and its digital twin model to estimate the displacement field at all model DOFs. ?? The animation illustrates this expansion method, applied to the measurement of a full brake system with 12 single-axis and 2 triaxis accelerometers. ?? Of course, trust in the estimated motion relies on the digital twin quality, especially at locations that are far from sensors (in comparison with the wavelength of the shape). ?? More details on this expansion technique can be found on this page of SDTools website: https://lnkd.in/e2hb8jVw. Further illustrations of the use of MDRE will be shown in future posts: test/FEM correlation check, experimental shape denoising, model updating, Structural Dynamics Modification techniques,… stay tuned ! ?? ?? [Expertise] Quality modelling hints: simplification pitfalls with preloaded modal analysis. ? Verification and Validation is at the foundation of numerical analysis, ensuring modelling quality. “All models are wrong but some are useful” is a common saying, but focusing on usefulness, a quality model is expected to be mistakes-free regarding implementation and input values, and capable of approaching the physics at play. ?? All models are then a simplification of reality, and simplification levels must be assessed for each procedure. For multi-step analyses such as preloaded modal analysis, implications may vary so that intermediate adaptations may be needed.?This is the case for brake squeal, where pressure actuation is simplified not to model the brake fluid. Its behavior however induces different main characteristics in statics and dynamics. ? Not altering the initial simplified model input suited to statics will lead to quality problems in dynamics! ?? Ensuring quality can thus be a challenging task, that can be eased by appropriate tools. SDTools develops original tools for this purpose, for implementation of verification and validation through experimental correlation and updating. ??Check out our latest website post about this subject to get more insights, and what this means for a brake actuator simplification: https://lnkd.in/eJWqPpyU #Dynamics #Engineering #ExpertsInVibration #Mechanical #NVH #Vibration #VibrationAnalysis #StructuralEngineering #StructuralMechanics #StructuralDynamics #Structures #MechanicalVibration #MATLAB #SDTools #SDT #Abaqus #Analysis #Ansys #NASTRAN #CAE #FEA #FiniteElementAnalysis #Modelling #Simulation #ModalAnalysis #Automotive #AutomotiveEngineering
