Super fun speaking at San Diego SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) annual conference last week. And while I love speaking - the full circle moments of the day were even better. When I started Civility Partners, Inc 15 years ago, I immediately reached out to local HR associations to inquire about speaking on workplace bullying. All of them said no, including SD SHRM, because back then harassment was the topic of the day and "workplace bullying didn't exist." Once I got my foot in the door thanks to people like Nina Elizabeth Woodard, Maureen Orey, Ed. D., CPTD, Karen Garman and others, nothing could stop me! So it's always fun to be invited to SD SHRM to speak now that employee experience and #CivilityAtWork are "a thing." SHRM now has an entire campaign around civility... if they'd only listened 15 years ago ;) I ran into Paul Falcone, who, if you don't know, has written like 1,000 management and leadership books. I stood next to him in the lunch line in 2016 (according to my emails), excited this VIP was talking to me. Paul and I had some email exchanges and he introduced me to some people. I felt so thankful he was taking the time to interact with lil' ol' me. Here we are now on the same stage at the same conference. He's now written 4,000 books (kidding) and I'm just working on my fourth. Thanks Paul for your support back then and now! I also got to witness the one and only Gregg Ward deliver a talk! So fun to both be focused on civility and respect, but we tackle it differently. And we've now been friends for several years - so it was great to see you in action, Gregg! #HumanResources #SHRM

San Diego SHRM Workplace Excellence Awards was created as an opportunity to educate and enlighten business leaders in San Diego County about the long-term contributions that exceptional HR practices make to the success and profitability of an organization. THE GOAL The primary goal of the program is to determine the value of the human resources function within successful organizations, and to promote the human resources professional as a vital strategic partner and executive team member. Each speaker brought exceptional passion and expertise to their work, making every session highly engaging and impactful.?The sessions offered invaluable training and insights. I started my sessions with Kathy Krul-Manor's session,?Unlocking Your Potential: Navigating the Future of HR and Leadership Impact, followed by Jack Kelly's?Leadership through Compensation. I also attended Fool Proofing?Communication: A Proven Method to Influence Others and Elevate Credibility?with Diane West and Abby Higdon. I ended the breakout sessions with an impactful breakout session,?Nature's Role in Reshaping the Future of Work with Keely Antonio. The knowledge and strategies shared in each of these sessions will be instrumental in advancing my business and enhancing my work in HR.
