The School District of Lancaster, in partnership with the Lancaster Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, hosted the fourth annual Thanksgiving meal distribution, providing 143 families with everything they need for a festive holiday dinner. The event, held at The Mix, was a community-driven effort fueled by donations from SDoL schools, Delta Sigma Theta members, and local organizations like Tyson Foods, which generously contributed whole chickens for the meal bags. Each bag contained essentials for preparing a traditional Thanksgiving meal, including mashed potatoes, brownie mix, three types of vegetables, an oven bag, and the donated chickens. “This is about more than just food—it’s about community and ensuring that every family in our district feels seen, valued, and supported,” Jassinya Alvarado, SDoL’s Director of Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion explained. “We’ve worked hard to grow this opportunity, and seeing the impact it has on families every year is truly rewarding.” As families gather around their tables this Thanksgiving, they can do so knowing they are part of a community that cares deeply about their well-being. #SDoLPA #SDoLProud #lancasterpa #community #strongertogether #happythanksgiving

The School District of Lancaster is honored to join the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and our community in celebrating Puerto Rican Heritage Month with the raising of the Puerto Rican flag in front of City Hall, which has been an official celebration in New York and other cities since 1998. This event pays tribute to the culture, rich history, and contributions of Puerto Ricans not only here in Lancaster but across the nation and around the world. Puerto Rican Heritage Month is a time to reflect on the influence of Puerto Rican culture in our communities, from art and music to food, education, and beyond. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the strength, resilience, and spirit of the Puerto Rican people who have made such an impact in our society.
