Welcome to the 2025 Major League Rugby Season and the Return of San Diego Legion Rugby It is an honor to kick off this new chapter at 2pm today as we take on our fiercest rivals, the Seattle Seawolves Rugby, in what promises to be an electrifying season opener. This season marks our return to the University of San Diego's Torero Stadium, our spiritual home, where we look forward to delivering thrilling rugby moments and creating an unforgettable and accessible atmosphere for all. As we embark on this campaign, we reflect on some incredible achievements from 2024. ? San Diego Legion was proudly represented on the international stage by five players, with Gregory Peterson captaining the USA Rugby National Team, a testament to the caliber of talent within our squad. ? Our Imagine Rugby program expanded its reach to over 220 schools, nearly 25 percent of all schools in San Diego, introducing more than 70,000 children to the game. This initiative has provided not just equipment but has also instilled rugby’s core values of respect, inclusiveness, and resilience in the next generation. ? We made history by appointing the nation’s first full-time Women’s and Girls Rugby Development Officer, furthering our commitment to growing the game at every level. ? A special acknowledgment to Ryan Patterson, our Team Co-Owner, who was named Sports San Diego’s Impact Player of the Year for his instrumental role in bringing the All Blacks vs Flying Fijians to San Diego, the most-viewed event in Snapdragon Stadium history. Looking ahead to 2025, we welcome Head Coach John Manenti, whose leadership and emphasis on discipline and hard work will sharpen our competitive edge. Manenti brings a wealth of experience, having most recently spent six years as Head Coach of Rugby Australia’s National Rugby Sevens program. We are also excited to introduce new talent, including Captain Brad Wilkin, international representatives Jed Holloway from Australia and Brook Toomalatai from Samoan, while also celebrating the return of Legion originals Nathaniel Sylvia and Chris T.. We also welcome back 2023 Legion standouts Richard Judd and Shilo Klein, who spent the past year competing in New Zealand Rugby’s premier rugby competition, Super Rugby. As we begin our Quest for the Shield, we remain committed to raising the standard, growing our impact, and striving for excellence in every aspect of the game. To our fans, partners, and community, your passion is what fuels us. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to another season of exciting rugby and engaging gameday experiences.
