CDFA SPOTLIGHT SDA/OC is proudly featuring Connor McCulloh, Operations, at ENVIRON Architecture in Long Beach, CA, and celebrating her dedication and hard work as she achieved to pass the exam and accomplish the Certified Design Firm Administrator (CDFA) designation. SDA’s CDFA program was developed to provide design firm administrators with an opportunity to demonstrate a command of the core areas of knowledge identified as essential to the effective performance of a design firm administrator. CDFAs are recognized as administrators and managers who have met work experience requirements, displayed a commitment to continuing education in the areas of Office Administration/IT, Human Resources, Finance, Marketing and Project Management, and passed a comprehensive examination based on these areas of study.

Using the WELL exam as a basis for this sustainability operations discussion, we will touch on ways that a firm can adapt their thinking to manage the health and well-being of the staff that occupy their buildings and what considerations go into making these changes at a low to zero cost to the overhead budget. Betsey Olenick Dougherty has been personally leading the change in the design firm operation realm for nearly 50 years, beginning with Dougherty + Dougherty Architects and then a merger with Perkins Eastman. Betsey began her journey during her graduate MARCH work at U.C. Berkeley, implementing what was known as Green Architecture for the Cal Poly Pomona Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies, one of the first DOE/AIA Top Ten Green Buildings in 1994. Betsey has been active in AIA as a Chapter and California State AIA President, a National AIA Board Member and Secretary, and a Chancellor of the AIA College of Fellows. She presently serves as a Regent of the California Architectural Foundation.
