Transparency isn't just a buzzword—it's crucial for real oversight and accountability. scrutinize's data serves this principle: It provides New Yorkers with the information they need to shape their judiciary to reflect their values. Last week, we saw our work in action. The ?????? ???????? ?????????? covered a new campaign urging Governor Hochul to deny reappointment to Brooklyn Judge Vincent Del Giudice. The campaign is rooted in Scrutinize's data about Del Giudice's track record. It's clear why Scrutinize's work is central to the campaign. Our data showed, among other things, that Judge Vincent Del Giudice currently stands as: - New York City's most excessive sentencer. He has had 19 of his sentences reduced by appellate courts, totaling a reduction of 503 prison years. - The judge with the most cases reversed on appeal and reassigned in the entire state. Reassigned cases often indicate judicial bias, prejudice, or at least the appearance of bias. ???????? ???????? - ????????????????????'?? ???????? ?????????? ?? ???????????????????? ????????????????: NYT - https://lnkd.in/dvq57BKN NY Daily News - https://lnkd.in/dBkHdtBY City & State - https://lnkd.in/dQ-XjACt Queens Daily Eagle - https://lnkd.in/daqJAqJy NY Law Journal - https://lnkd.in/dMytRe9a

Today scrutinize released a new fact sheet titled Reverse & Reassign: Red Flags of Improper Judicial Conduct, which introduces a new metric for evaluating judicial performance: Reassignment to a Different Judge (RDJ). This metric highlights instances where New York's intermediate appellate courts do more than just overturn decisions—they also reassign the cases to new judges. These reassignments signal judicial impropriety that extends beyond legal errors. In many instances, reassignment occurs when a judge's conduct evinces bias, prejudice, or creates an appearance of bias. Some examples of the judicial conduct underlying RDJs: - Coercing guilty pleas - Ruling on the credibility of a police witness who is married to the judge's own clerk - Helping the prosecution by conducting extensive examination of witnesses Full fact sheet and interactive table of our findings: https://lnkd.in/ezPERxwZ
