  • Teach Your Teen to Celebrate Progress (Not Just Cross the Finish Line)! ??? Teenagers (and, let’s be honest, adults, too!) often jump straight from one task to the next without taking a moment to recognize progress. But celebrating small wins keeps motivation high and builds confidence! In Scrum, teams review their work at the end of each cycle to identify what went well and what could improve. Your teen can do the same! ? Today’s challenge: Ask your teen: ? What did you accomplish this week? ? What worked well? ? What could you improve next time? Even a quick conversation over dinner can help them see their progress and feel more in control of their workload. That’s a wrap on our week of getting started with Scrum! Ready for more? Scrum teaches a simple way to keep work moving forward so deadlines don’t sneak up! Instead of waiting until the last minute, teens should check on their tasks regularly and adjust as needed. ? Today’s challenge: Encourage your teen to do a quick daily check-in: ?? What did I finish yesterday? ?? What will I work on today? ?? What’s blocking my progress? This habit helps them catch problems early so they won’t pull an all-nighter later! We’ll wrap up the week with a tip on celebrating progress tomorrow. ?? ?? Once your teen has their priorities set, the next step is to make their work visible—so they can track what’s done and what still needs attention. ? Today’s challenge: Help your teen set up a simple To Do → Doing → Done board. This could be: ?? Sticky notes on a wall ?? A whiteboard ?? A free digital tool like Trello Moving tasks from To Do to Done gives them a clear sense of accomplishment—and helps them stay focused instead of feeling overwhelmed. Tomorrow, we’ll talk about how to keep things moving forward without stress. Stay tuned! ?? • Teach Your Teen to Tackle What Matters Most! ??? Now that your teen has written down everything they need to do, they might be staring at a long list thinking, Where do I even start? ?? That’s where prioritization comes in! Instead of trying to do everything at once, they should focus on what’s most important right now. ? Today’s challenge: Have your teen pick their top 3 priorities—the tasks that are either due soon or will have the biggest impact. This small habit helps them avoid last-minute stress and work on what truly matters. Less scrambling, more progress! ?? Stay tuned for tomorrow’s tip on making progress visible! ?? • Overwhelmed? Here’s the First Step to Getting Organized! ???? Ever hear “I have so much to do, I don’t even know where to start!” from your teen? ?? When everything feels too much, the best thing to do is get it all out of your mind and onto paper (or a digital board!). This simple step makes tasks feel more manageable instead of mysterious. ? Today’s challenge: Ask your teen to write down everything they need to do—homework, projects, chores, even personal goals. Don’t worry about order or deadlines yet. Just get it down! This is the first step in using Scrum to turn chaos into clarity. Stay tuned this week as we walk through the entire process! ?? SCRUM methodology for a Creative Director? YES PLEASE! ????? At the 2024 LCI Congress in San Diego, I found myself in a Scrum workshop led by Felipe Engineer-Manriquez and Tom Martin. As a creative director, I was the odd one out in a room full of construction professionals – but sometimes the best insights come from unexpected places. Managing creative projects isn't so different from managing construction sites. Both need: - Clear outcomes - Well-defined tasks - Organized backlogs - Focused execution The principles of Scrum – a framework I discovered through construction professionals – have improved how I run my media agency. There is not much difference between building physical structures and building stories. My secret weapon for getting started? "Scrum for Teens" by Noah Engineer-Manriquez. Don't let the title fool you – this book breaks down complex Lean principles into digestible, actionable insights. (Sometimes the best way to learn something new is to start with the basics!) All you need is blue tape, Post-It notes and a marker... Genius. Our production pipelines are more efficient, our team communication is clearer, and our deliverables are more consistent. From documentary projects to marketing campaigns, Scrum has given us a framework that brings order to creative chaos. Biggest takeaway: Innovation often lives at the intersection of different industries. Sometimes you need to step outside your creative bubble to find tools that will transform your work.
