"... unlike the apostolic and post-apostolic periods, the modern church’s commitment to witness has not been accompanied by a concomitant commitment to disciple-making. As a result, we are forced to concede that today, global Christian spirituality is at risk of becoming ‘a mile long and an inch deep’." This powerful statement comes from Lausanne Movement's 2024 Great Commission Report. Throughout history, the church’s response to the need for discipleship and worship has been clear: immerse in the Psalms. In times of persecution and spiritual need, the Psalms have rooted believers deeply in the faith: - Paul and Silas sang them in prison (Acts 16:25). - The early church found solace in them. - Protestant reformers clung to them during persecution. - Today, oppressed churches around the globe continues to draw strength from them. Why the Psalms? As N.T. Wright reminds us: “The Psalms offer us comprehensive and essential discipleship training. We may have deep spiritual experiences and encounters, sense God’s ways instinctively and intuitively, and excel in spiritual gifts, even being called talented, but we need to be trained, and there is no better teacher, trainer, and guide than the Psalms.” The Psalms are the prayers of David, of ancient Israel, of Jesus—and they can become our prayers too. They teach us to navigate the highs and lows of life with God, fortifying us for the difficulties Jesus promised would come. How have you been discipled by the Psalms? How have you been guided to worship or persevere by them? #Discipleship #Psalms #Faith #Lausanne2024 #SpiritualDepth #BibleTranslation #GreatCommission
