Just last month, I had the honor of speaking at the 2nd Annual Health Equity Congress in Atlanta. I’ve had some time to reflect on what I’ve learned from other fellow professionals on how we can all make a difference in the clinical trial space. Here were some of my takeaways: 1. Let’s Emphasize Our Patient’s Needs - ?It's important to really understand what our patients are going through, not just their health conditions, but the daily challenges they face because they live with these diseases every day. By collecting and using data from their real-life experiences, we can learn more about what different groups of patients need. This helps us design better clinical trials that focus on these needs and make sure all kinds of patients are fairly represented. 2. Education is Key - Everyone involved has a role in educating patients—this includes doctors, local communities, groups that advocate for patients, and companies that sponsor health research. By working together, we can give clear and accurate information about important clinical trials. This helps fight against wrong information about health, especially for those dealing with autoimmune diseases and rare conditions. It's like being part of a team; everyone needs to be active and involved, not just watching from the sidelines. 3. Patient Voices Make Better Trials - When we let patients help design clinical trials, the trials become more useful and easier for them to participate in. This cooperation makes the trials more directly relevant to their needs and builds trust. More trust means more people are likely to join and stay in these trials. By listening to what patients say they need and prefer, we make sure the trials are truly helping them in the best way possible. It's more than just informing our patients; it's about ALL of us actively listening to them and incorporating their experiences into our practices. While we may be the experts, patients live with their conditions daily, making their insights invaluable. By integrating these strategies, we aim to reach more underserved communities and ensure that trust, transparency, and improved success rates are achieved through clinical trials. #PatientRecruitment #HealthEquity #ClinicalTrials #HealthLiteracy #Heathcare #BioTech #ViuHealth

With Walmart's recent decision to close its healthcare centers and end virtual health services, a significant gap has emerged in healthcare accessibility, especially in underserved neighborhoods. These centers were vital for lower-income patients and those in rural areas with few healthcare options. At Scriptify, we're stepping up to fill this void with our innovative virtual pharmacy-on-demand services. We're committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their location or economic status, has access to the medications and health services they need, promptly and affordably. This is more than a business for us; it's about making a real difference in the lives of communities often left behind in healthcare advancements. Join us in the conversation to transform healthcare delivery and make health equity a reality.? What’s your vision? #HealthcareInnovation #VirtualPharmacy #CommunityHealth #StartupLife

I don't usually post much on LinkedIn, but last weekend I had the privilege of participating the MIT Hacking Medicine Grand Hack in Cambridge. It was one of the most stimulating experiences of my career. Along with over 600 industry leaders, founders, and top talent, I worked to solve pressing healthcare challenges. The hackathon had three segments: Health with Everyday Objects, Women's Health, and Aging and Elderly Populations, which I joined. As some of you know, I'm the founder of Scriptify, a community pharmacy startup addressing the equity and access gap in pharmacists' clinical CPT services for chronically ill patients, many of whom are aging and elderly. Though my original focus was on clinically mobilizing pharmacists, during the hackathon I shifted my focus to developing mA.I. BRAIN, an AI-based tool for early diagnosis of cognitive decline in elderly patients. Our team, led by Tracy Ingram, a world-renowned founder in the Alzheimer's space, included Mayank Daté and Abner Flores Morales, healthcare data scientists, and Marianna Leite, a medical student from Brazil specializing in Neuroscience and cognitive machine learning. In 30 hours, we designed, developed, and soft-tested a generative AI version of the ADAS-COG diagnosis test, gamified into activities like chess and bridge. This approach not only promotes social engagement among elderly people, addressing loneliness and depression, but also provides real-world evidence to potential CDMO/CRO partners like Thermo Fisher Scientific and KPMG US. Compared to traditional ADAS-COG tests, our product is more efficient and consistent, offering valuable data for therapeutic research. I'm incredibly grateful for the relationships and partnerships I built during this event. I want to acknowledge everyone who supported me during the hackathon and in my preparation: - Karnel Walker - Biopharma Partnerships, Clinical Research Thermo Fisher Scientific - Joshua Leaston - MD, MBA Candidate at Stanford University, Neuroscience and Machine Learning - Kelvin P., Manufacturing Process Engineer - Moderna - Nicolette Ferriole, Healthcare Data Analyst - Atlantic Health Group - Oladimeji F., CTO at Quantoom - Kirtana Sripathi, Senior Clinical Scientist at Takeda - Armstrong Mephors - RPh. PhilRx - Michael Kress, EVP at Merck Developmental Sciences and Clinical Supply - Mike Wysong Chairman of NACDS, CEO of Care Pharmacies - Jeff Dunn, CEO at Cooperative Benefits Group - Adam Bottie, MBA, MSPharm Bottie, VP at Pharmalink - Stefan Roehr, EVP of North American Supply Chain at Sanofi Genzyme Lastly, I'd like to thank my home, Newark, NJ, and a special place called Students 2 Science, led by Paul Winslow and Gary Sarkis,. I'm a product of their mentorship and commitment to advancing science in urban communities. If you support me, please consider visiting or connecting with them. I can't wait to share my experiences when I visit them soon. Until then, it's back to work! ??
