?? Empowering Electrochemistry Series ?? This week, we’re thrilled to highlight the outstanding research of Max Naylor Marlow, Jingyi Chen, and Billy Wu from Imperial College London. Their pioneering work provides critical information on lithium-ion battery pack degradation under thermal gradients. ?? Key Findings: Their team investigated how parallel-connected lithium-ion battery packs degrade when exposed to temperature variations between 20-45°C. Using Scribner, LLC #ZView #EIS processing and fitting software, they saw divergent degradation at heterogeneous temperatures, linked to increased cathode impedance. ?? Impact: This insight is crucial for the design and implementation of large scalelarge-scale battery packs which often require parallel connected cells. This week, we're excited to highlight groundbreaking research from Miriam Komma, Thomas B?hm, and their team at Helmholtz-Institut Erlangen-Nürnberg für Erneuerbare Energien! Their recent work (https://lnkd.in/eVS5H68n), supported by Scribner, LLC's 850e Fuel Cell Test System and Cell Fixtures, has revealed fundamental insight into #PEM fuel cells with graphene-reinforced composite membranes (LT-PEMFCs). ?? Key Findings: ? Single-Layer Graphene (SLG), when placed between two Nafion? XL membranes, effectively blocks 50% of hydrogen permeation in dry conditions. ? In a fuel cell, the hydrogen crossover is reduced by only around 15%, which could be primarily traced back to membrane humidification at operating conditions. ? The fabrication approach of the composite membrane is decisive for the fuel cell performance, as remnants may poison the catalyst and reduce the membrane’s conductivity. ?? Impact: Their research offers valuable insights into cell design and challenges associated with evaluating new materials, highlighting the requirements for high-performance membranes in LT-PEMFCs.
