Greetings, On this first weekend of Spring, Disney’s SNOW WHITE won the box office crown with a $43M opening weekend, far outpacing a cast of weak competition.?While this does not rise to the level of some Disney family movie openings, it is still an achievement given the string of bad luck and cloud of controversy that have surrounded this movie. Production on SNOW WHITE had originally been scheduled to start in March 2020, but was shut down by the arrival of COVID.?Two years later when it restarted, the set was closed down again by a fire.?The leading stars of the movie, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, have each been caught up in political controversy, voicing opposite opinions on the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza.?Finally, filmmaker Marc Webb has been questioned by some for his choice to update the 1937 store to modern sensibilities, including a re-imagining of the Seven Dwarfs, now generated using CGI. Still, exhibitors are happy to have the second-best movie opening of the year, trailing CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD’s $88.8M from February 14-16 and ahead of DOG MAN’s $36M from January 31 – February 2.?Dig into the details in Dick Walsh’s Weekend Review. You will also enjoy reading our latest crop of movie reviews, covering SNOW WHITE and THE ALTO KNIGHTS directed by Barry Levinson and starring Robert De Niro. In this week’s Don’t Kill the Messenger podcast, host Kevin Goetz welcomes film producer and studio executive Mike Medavoy. ?With a career spanning five decades, Medavoy has been closely involved with over 300 feature films, with seven of those winning Best Picture Oscars. From agent to studio chief to producer, his remarkable journey from Shanghai to Hollywood has shaped some of cinema's most important films, including Rocky, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Apocalypse Now, Platoon, and Silence of the Lambs. #snowwhitemovie #snowwhite2025 #disney #waltdisneystudios #rachelzegler #galgadot #marcwebb #thealtoknights #screendollars #dickwalsh #boxoffice #tickettoridepodcast #kevingoetz #mikemedavoy #thefilmverdict #alonsoduralde

Greetings, Paramount’s violent action-comedy NOVOCAINE drifted to the top of the box office, with a $8.7M opening weekend.?Unfortunately, it was an uninspiring weekend overall, with the total for all films coming in at $52.7M, the third straight time when 2025’s results have underperformed those from 2024.?What’s more, last year was widely seen as a “down year†for moviegoing and Q1 was the worst quarter of the year.?This year’s box office has now slipped behind that from 2024.?Check out Dick Walsh’s Weekend Review to get all the details. On the bright side, there is good reason to be optimistic about next weekend when Disney will unveil its live-action remake of SNOW WHITE, starring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.?We’re predicting it will be the second-best movie opening of the year, with sales of $60M-$70M in its first three days. Greetings, The new leader of the weekend box office is the darkly comic sci-fi adventure MICKEY 17 which earned $19.1M in its opening weekend.?This is the first movie by South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho after his Oscar-winning global hit PARASITE in 2019.?MICKEY 17 was ready to go and planned for release early last year, but Warner Bros. decided that its prospects would be limited by the after-effects of Hollywood’s labor strikes of 2023.?After a few date changes, WB settled on this weekend for its debut, when it could take center stage with limited competition. The runner up was Disney and Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD in its fourth week, selling an additional $8.5M.?The fourth CAPTAIN AMERICA movie has now earned $176.6M domestic and $370.8M worldwide in the 24 days since it opened.?You can read all the details about the top movies of the weekend in Dick Walsh’s Weekend Review.?Be sure also to check out our critic’s reviews of two of next weekend’s new movies, Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller BLACK BAG from Focus Features and Dan Berk and Robert Olsen’s action thriller NOVOCAINE from Paramount. In the latest episode of our Don’t Kill the Messenger podcast, host Kevin Goetz sits down with Hollywood writer, director and producer Chris Landon.?While Chris is the son of television legend Michael Landon, he has carved his own career path in Hollywood, specializing in horror comedy or what he calls "feel-good horror."?He is known for films that include Happy Death Day, Freaky, Disturbia, and most recently, Heart Eyes. #mickey17 #warnerbros #bongjoonho #robertpattinson #captainamerica #bravenewworld #marvelstudios #mcu #screendollars #kevingoetz #dontkillthemessengerpodcast #chrislandon

Greetings Oscar Aficionados, Best of luck to all the nominees at tonight’s 97th Academy Awards ceremony.?May the millions who tune in tonight thoroughly enjoy Hollywood’s biggest annual extravaganza, hosted by Conan O’Brien.?We’re predicting a big night for THE BRUTALIST, with ANORA, EMILIA PEREZ, A COMPLETE UNKNOWN and CONCLAVE also in line for significant recognition. At the box office, Disney and Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD remained the #1 movie in theatres for the third weekend in a row, with $15.0M in new ticket sales.?The superhero sequel has grossed $163.7M in its first 17 days, which is decent but not spectacular since it was a rather expensive movie to make, with a production budget of $180M.?The fourth movie in the Captain America franchise may struggle to turn a profit, since it will need to earn $450M worldwide to get there and has taken in only $342M as of today. Focus Features’ underwater rescue thriller LAST BREATH swam to second place, with an opening tally of $7.8M followed by Neon’s horror flick THE MONKEY which earned $6.4M in its second weekend.?Go deeper into the numbers with Dick Walsh’s Weekend Review.?You will also enjoy reading our critic’s review of the breathtaking action in LAST BREATH. #captainamerica #bravenewworld #marvelstudios #mcu #lastbreathmovie #focusfeatures #themonkey #neonrated #screendollars

Greetings, Disney and Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD remained the #1 movie this weekend, with an additional box office of $28.2M, making for a 10-day total of $141.2M.?On the one hand, it was the third highest gross for any movie in any weekend in 2025, after its own $88.8M opening last weekend and DOG MAN’s $36M opening from January 31 – February 2.?On the other hand, its 68% drop from weekend #1 to weekend #2 is the steepest drop of any of the four CAPTAIN AMERICA movies to-date, which is not a good sign for this movie’s long-term outlook. Neon’s THE MONKEY took second place this weekend with $14.2M in its first three days.?This is the seventeenth horror movie that Neon has released in its eight years history, and the second from the up-and-coming horror filmmaker Osgood Perkins after last year’s LONGLEGS.?THE MONKEY is based on a short story of the same name by Stephen King, who has had over 60 movies made based from his extensive catalog of creepy books and short stories. Tag along with Dick Walsh as he goes all the way down the box office rabbit hole in our Weekend Review.?Every Sunday over the past four decades, Dick has given his analysis of the weekend box office, through all its ups and downs.?You will also enjoy our new movie review of PADDINGTON IN PERU and MICKEY 17, from our critic Alonso Duralde.
