    “They’re the bane of my existence - validation rules and required fields in Salesforce” is something I hear frequently from RevOps and AEs. But what often goes missed is the serious negative impact they have on operational rigor and forecasting - something sales leaders care about. So why does nearly every company use them? Pro: 1. To get the frontline sales team to execute in the way the company wants 2. It's part of Salesforce Cons: 1. Artificially deflate your pipeline (see below) 2. Fill Salesforce with low quality data (reps enter whatever they can to get past the gates; garbage in) Take a look at your pipeline; if it looks like a barbell (many in stage 2 or 3, many in the final stages, with little in between) then you’re probably impacted. Reps are most likely withholding the real information and not progressing the stages because of the friction in the process. So before adding more validation rules and required fields, take this into account.     "WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SCRATCHPAD MEMORY?" At the end of every week, we meet as an entire company to share what each department is working on and highlight personal announcements. One of those personal announcements is a "Scratch-iversary." That employee then shares a favorite memory from their time at Scratchpad... ... And it's almost always a moment from one of our offsites. As a remote company, we believe it's so important to make time to come together and see each other in person. This week we ventured out to Skamania Lodge on the Columbia River Gorge in Washington and it did not disappoint! I mean look at that view ?? Instead of workshops and breakout sessions, we did geocaching, disc golf, bike rides, salad bowl (IYKYK), and even some spa treatments. It's the best way to build camaraderie, refresh, and come back motivated to work together as a team. Shoutout to Sharlene and Diane for making this happen! We can't wait for the next one ?? ??? ??

    Last night was the 23rd dinner or meetup I've organized this year, and unique in that I couldn't get a word out cause everyone was so busy socializing. 23 events is a lot, so sharing a few insights and takeaways: 1) The most important part is curating the attendee list to ensure everyone is at similar career stages with similar responsibilities so they ideally see each other as peers. Time consuming, but absolutely essential to be thoughtful. 2) Like anything else, the first one or two is always the hardest but once you get going, it becomes about being consistent, 3) Intros and getting mutual connections to help/extend invitations has the highest success rate to folks attending a dinner or at the very least responding. Emails get a healthy response rate, and LinkedIn Inmails has generated "zero" conversions and very few replies, 4) If needed, have 1 or 2 topics in your back pocket to jumpstart the conversation and if it's slowing down, facilitate with another topic. 5) Build strong relationships with the restaurant managers and staff — makes a huge difference in the long run. Thanks to everyone who came out and thanks to Scratchpad for the support.
