Founded in 1976, SCRAP is a national model of how to give second life to materials that otherwise would be thrown away. It is the only organization in San Francisco to collect and distribute reusable art & craft materials. Mission statement SCRAP's mission is to stimulate creativity and environmental awareness in children and adults through promoting the creative reuse of material that traditionally have been discarded as waste. Our goals are: ? Maximize the diversion of materials from the solid waste stream ? Collect and distribute reusable materials to arts and educational organizations and the general public ? Educate the public and school children in the art of creative reuse What SCRAP does: ? Diverts over 250 tons of materials from businesses and individuals and redistributes these reusable art material to educational and community organizations ? Offers educational programs, field trips, workshops directed to school children and the public Who SCRAP serves: ? Over 170 schools in San Francisco and Bay Area ? At least 200 community organizations ? 38,000 annual visits by teachers, artist working with community organizations Public Resources and Educational Programs ? Frequent arts and reuse workshops ? Field trips serving more than 600 school children ? Reclaimed resources sorted and organized by material type
