Road work is underway for the Intertie Project. Crews are surveying underground utilities throughout the pipeline corridor, with a focus on the Sims Road area in the coming week. This will result in short single-lane closures and one-way traffic control. Note: the Highway 17 off-ramp at Sims Road will remain open during this work. Pipeline installation is expected to begin before the end of the month. This work will start on the south end of the project near the intersection of Sims and La Madrona roads. Work starts at 8:30 a.m. daily. Please be prepared for slight delays. More info here: https://lnkd.in/gTmH8jVd

Water main flushing is the process of cleaning or "scouring"; the inside of the water main by sending a high-velocity flow of water through the system. This is conducted by opening fire hydrants and releasing water at the speed of up to 5 feet per second to remove deposits built up inside the mains. Flushing is a crucial preventative measure that helps to maintain the capacity of the pipe and to protect water quality by removing deposits from inside the mains. The District regularly flushes its system and notifies its customers of the flushing schedule. Scotts Valley Water District will flush water mains between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays February 10-28, 2025. Visit https://lnkd.in/geAcVvPn for details.

The City of Santa Cruz Water Department and Scotts Valley Water District will soon break ground on a collaborative, $6.5 million intertie pipeline project to connect the two water agencies. The critically important project will dramatically increase system resilience, improve emergency preparedness, and ensure the availability of reliable, safe drinking water for customers of both agencies. The intertie will link the potable water systems of the City of Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley Water District through the construction of a new 2-mile pipeline and pump station. The route of the pipeline will include La Madrona Drive, Sims Road and Firehouse Lane. The pipeline is the final link in a regional effort to connect public water systems from Boulder Creek to La Selva Beach.? Construction is expected to begin at the end of January and last approximately 12 months with anticipated traffic impacts in the area. Funding for the project came from the state Department of Water Resources Grant and both water agencies. A community meeting about the project will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Santa Margarita Room at the Scotts Valley Water District, located at 2 Civic Center Drive in Scotts Valley. For more information, including how to sign up for bi-weekly email updates about the project, please visit?https://lnkd.in/gn5uMPgV.? ?
